Anyone have any advice or tips on how I should run my new Evinrude 150? Any advice on oil or gas? I have a full tank of XD50 oil and am going to fill the tank with NON-ethonal fuel. Besides these things, how should I run it for break in? The dealership were I bought it at was not very helpfull but did give me a great deal

I am fairly positive that you just have to run it. The computer adjust the oil usage during break in. So you might notice a drop in oil usage after it is broken in.

    I have a e-tec-75
All you have to do is “shut-up-and-fish”
E-tec’s are out of box and run no break in time.

I am hanging a ’10 150 E-TEC tonight – there is no break in on the engine as the computer double oils for a period of time. I do know that you can have your dealer program the engine to run XD100 only and it will use approx 1/2 of the oil over the life – this is what I plan to do.

Enjoy your new power plant on the back of your boat!

    Thanks guys.
I think I may switch over to xd100 after the xd50 gets low. I understand I will have to take it back to the dealer as they have to re-program the motor. I researched this via the internet so I won’t make any mistakes on that issue. I guess tomarrow will be the test, im gonna drive it hard and see what this motor has compared to my old fitch.

Like Glenn said, drive it like you stole it. If you fish in colder weather, I would for sure switch it over to XD100. Even if you only fish when it is warm, I would switch it anyway. I have an ’08 150 and love the motor. I run the XD100 and only go through about 1 gallon of oil for every 3 tanks of gas on a 38 gallon tank.

Switch to XD100 oil in the tank when you are done with the XD50. READ your owners manual.
The computer takes care of the break in period. Did your dealer hook up a System Check gauge?
    Enjoy!!

Why do you have to run NON-ethonal fuel?

Don’t HAVE to, but I think the general idea is that for any engine, especially ones that go without use for extended periods of time, that ethanol will absorb water, potentially separate, cause fuel line issues, gum up or corrode rubber, etc….

I think I’m having some sputtering issues with my lawmower due to past use of ethanol-containing gas. Going to use premium, non-ethanol gas with conditioners in all of my non-car engines from now on.

Woot!! Took it out this afternoon and it runs like a bat outa $#%^. The motor runs great but I did experience cutting out when I trimmed the engine up. If I tap the trim button it doesn’t cut out, but if I hold the button in for a brief second the motor cuts and misses. Any idea why the engine cuts out while trying to do a full button push trim? It doesnt matter where the position of the engine is when running WOT the engine cuts out momentarily while pushing the button. Tapping it works but takes a while to get the motor trimmed up. Thanks

How old is your starting battery? Does it have a full charge?

Starter battery has full charge and is realatively new. i talked to the dealership that mounted it and they said bring it in and they will have a look at it. The only problem is they are 250 miles away and I have a BPR dealer only 12 miles away. The dealership that sold me the motor and hung it on the boat said they will not cover it if I take it to the closer dealer. Only if it is a manufacturer warranty…not if they didn’t install it correctly. Thanks
