not the day to have that problem my ranger did the same it was the thermostat!! cheap and easy to do by yourself if it is then it is probably sticking! hope that is all it is and you get it going with all the heat
June 23, 2009 at 12:31 pm #785935I sure would like to know the outcome of this. I have the same issue with a ’01 GMC 2500HD. Last summer is quit on and off for a couple days and they could find anything wrong with it. Yesterday, it quit working for about an hour and then kicked in again. I leave Wed for a two week road trip with the family. 90 degree plus weather, truck full of people, and no air
June 23, 2009 at 1:08 pm #785954I would bet it is the pressure cycling switch located in the accumulator (silver canister on pass side of engine compartment). It has one small electrical plug and the screws out (has a small o’ring on it. All you have to do is unplug it and unscrew, replace it with no special tools.
GM part# 1132749 will run about $45.85 plus tax!June 23, 2009 at 11:42 pm #786135Worked this morning so didn’t turn it off when I parked at the shop, worked fine again tonight. $50 isn’t to bad a fix if thats what it is. I know last time I took my last truck in for a blown intake gasket a $450 job tuned into a $900 job so I’m a little leery of taking it in.
June 24, 2009 at 1:35 am #786157I have run across of a couple trucks with the same problem and the both of them had a bad heater/ air conditioning control assembly in the dash…..
Its been quite awhile now and both have worked flawlessly since….
Just another option to test out.
June 24, 2009 at 1:46 am #786162Everything else works great, just the AC has a mind of it’s own. Maybe it’s female.

Get that red dexcool antifreeze out of your engine and go with the green or you may have the intake gasket problem again. That stuff is corrosive to gaskets. Not sure what to tell you on the ac problem though.June 24, 2009 at 3:41 am #786196That trucks gone anyway and it did have the green in it. Funny how the AC worked when I got the truck in March
topdawg1817Posts: 29June 24, 2009 at 4:25 pm #786324I have the same thing happening on a 2007 Impala. It has been in the shop a couple of times. The first time they said there was nothing wrong. The second time they replaced the control switch, now two months later it is doing it again. Thank god it is a company car so I don’t have to foot the bill.

TEST: pull the connector from the low side pressure switch on the Dryer (the quart sized can on the firewall on the passenger side) . You need to lift the lock tab on the connector and pull it off. Then you should see two (2) small pin receptacles in the end. Take a small, bare metal, paperclip or wire and make a jumper that you can push in the end of the connector. Start the truck, turn on the A/C to the coolest setting and high blower, recirc. Then if the clutch is not engaged, insert the jumper. If the clutch engages, the clutch adjustment gap is likely ok. You should be able to pull the jumper in and out and make the clutch engage/disengage. If not, it could be one of many other issues.
