After diligently shopping for days, I recently purchased a new fridge and thought I made a good purchase, now I’m not so sure. After letting it rest for a day from laying it on it’s side, I pluged it in til it stopped running, thne transferred it full of stuff. I began to notice funny noises while the unit is running, small clunks and also something that sounds like far away chickens clucking. I called the repair network and they stated those are normal sounds from the motor to the compressor. Am I an idiot or what? since when are noises normal in the purchase of a new item? Has anyone experienced anything close to this from a fridge they’ve bought lately? I have 90 days to take it back with no penalty, and it’s how I’m leaning at this time, I just thought after spending 900 bucks I’d have something much quieter, by the way its a kenmore, suddenly I want my 23 year old one back. cept its full of crawlers in the garage and they need a home too.

To me it doesn’t seem like new appliances are made nearly as well as old ones. Call them up and let them know you are sending it back. Who wants a clunky new old sounding fridge in there kitchen? What company in there rite mine would put one out on the market that would sound that way. My mother in law has one of these and 8 years latter it is still clunking away ever time we are over there.

Speaking of new refrigerators, we also have one. Ours is a bottom freezer GE that doesn’t make noises, but every time we open the ice cube compartment in the freezer, we get shelled with ice cubes. My concern is stepping on one of these errant missiles and experiencing serious injury. Spouse and I are in our 70’s and don’t bounce as well as we once did.
We’ve complained to the manufacturer which resulted in a visit from a service man. He tried to adjust the level of cubes in the compartment, but was unsuccessful. Apparently, this is a common problem with these GE refrigerators. His final suggestion was to keep dumping ice cubes so the compartment is always empty. $1600 fridge and the best we can do is go cubeless. Since my hearing is going, I’d rather have the noises.
Our lawyer is on standby and licking his chops.
    Beware!

I agree I wouldn’t want a new fridge to have a clunking noise. Our fridge quit working before last Christmas. The Sears repair guy said the clunking noise our old one was making was a sign that the compressor was going. Now our old fridge is continueing to clunk away in the garage.

Didn’t Sears offer free delivery? They did on ours. Do they recommend that you lay a new fridge on its side?

I was considering a really good deal on a Kenmore HE front load washer and drier combo until I did some reviewing online. It seems like the Kenmore brand is not what it once was. I certainly would not “settle” if you’re not satisfied with a brand new purchase. I’d give them 89 days to make it right and then consider a different brand.

    Good Luck.

Now if they made one that sounds like pheasants, you could sign me up!

No really, use that 90 day guarantee and get a quiet one! I buy all of my big ticket items from Judges in Hastings. Family owned, and they will plug them in on the spot so you can see…I mean hear what you get.
