SI Transducer mounting

I am going with the two transducers for my SI unit as recommended by David Poort at the January seminar ( a high speed transducer in normal position for the 2D sonar and the SI transducer mounted so it is only in the water when off plane)

I have a 171/2 ft. Fish Hawk with a 75 Merc tiller, my mounting board is on the port side of the transom, my thought is to mount the 2D transducer closer to the main motor and the SI transducer toward the outside. This will put the 2D transducer 10 inches from the boats center line and the SI transducer 15 inches from the center line. It looks like there is very little room to mount the SI in a workable position since it has to be low enough to get a clear side shot left and right and not be interfered with by the Mercury mounting or the 2D sonar.

I’m wondering if I’ll be putting the 2D transducer to close to the prop. Does anyone have a transducer placement pattern that is working well? Thanks

Just remember how ever you set up you transducers, the side scan has to be lower than the 2D or it’ll bounce off it. If you’ve ever read any of my post you’ll know I’m a big advocate of dual SI’s TDs. Then you can run the high speed in between.
Other wise you’ll likely have to run the 2D on the out side of the transom where the bottom of the boat is higher up than the center line. This way you can keep the SI up a bit from the underneath but still be lower than the 2D, if its got any kind of V to it.

The best advice I can give you is to bring your boat up to Skeeter Boat Center and have your SI system professionally installed.

Some of the benefits of their rigging program can be found at this link.

Dave Poort was at Skeeter Boat Center for two seminars this past winter. Were you at one of those talks? If so, then you should be able to find their place again without any trouble. If not, drop me a PM if you need driving directions. Thanks!
