I would not accept what your insurance agent wants you to use. Does your insurance policy state you must use whatever parts your agent tells you to use?

I am unfortunately in the market for a lower unit for my 91 yamaha 200 and looking for some insight as to what brands are better than others, also looking to find a predator prop to replace the one I destroyed. My insurance adjuster wants me to use parts the shop refuses to sell and install.Anyone been there before?

I would ask that adjuster what makes him an expert in outboard motors. Then I would remind him of how much money you have paid that company for how many years. Sounds like an a-hole to me !

Can I ask what insurance company do you have? If it’s who I have I might have to consider changing.

    I’m going to guess Progressive.

thats what i was thinking. I just had a claim for a few gouges in the boat and it took over a month just to get it back from the shop because progressive didnt think they should pay. they thought that painting the hull flat black would be a good idea and just leave the metal flake out.

Your right about it being Progressive,I will begin the battle this week with refusing his plan of getting it replaced with an inferior brand etc.I would have been farther ahead had I known what I do now regarding their practices for claims adjustments.I just worry about if I will be back in the boat before we have early ice.More to come I guess.

Last year I took out my lower unit. When I called the place to see when I could get the boat in to get fixed the first question they asked me is do you have your boat insured with Progressive? I told them no, why. I was then told if you had Progressive we would not take on the work. The reason was because just what you are going threw.
    Good Luck with your claim.

I’ve posted this before, but I also had Progressive about 5 years ago. I nailed a rock on Lake of the Woods at the beginning of a week trip. It took out my lower unit on a 1996 Johnson 115 hp. The Morson ON marina was closed on Labor Day. I was there bright and early the Tues after labor day making phone calls to Progressive. Their first answer was to find a used rebuilt one. They couldn’t find one anywhere close to Morson Canada. They had a new one in Nester Falls (about 70 miles away). I emailed them pictures of my damaged lower unit. They wanted me to wait until I got home to get it fixed. I biched for about 10 minutes saying I didn’t need it fixed next week, I needed if fixed for my vacation. They allowed me to get the brand new lower unit. I’m sure they would have preferred to have me wait and find a used one. Unfortunately, the first brand new one they put in was bad and only lasted a couple hours on the water. I wasted a second day while they put a second one on. Progressive also foot the bill for a brand new stainless prop. Maybe they’ve changed since then, but I can’t complain about their service.
