Heading to Webster South Dakota in the a.m. for a week of walleye fishing with the guys. Anyone have any hot tips they are willing to share? Thanks.

    Fish in the water.

Stop in at the Sportsman’s Cove bait shop. The guy running the place is very nice and always up to date on the bite. Great time to be out there. Jig bite for eyes. Smallies should also be going. Good luck!!

Dragging crawler-spinner rigs is probably the most productive way to go right now. If you can locate structure holding fish I’d go to piching jigs with a half crawler or leach or slip bobber them.

Forgot to mention, If you want to enjoy some of your catch and don’t feel like cooking, Boomers will cook your fish and provide sides for a reasonable price. Just set it up with them in advance on a night that is slower for them during the week, give them your well cleaned fillets and enjoy.

That’s a great option. We are staying at Boomer’s house.

You know, I actually do have some great advice: wear your life jacket. Read THIS post and I’m sure you’ll agree. Good luck up there.

Check out a lake called Opitz. It’s about 8-10 miles north of Webster and west of Hwy 25. You will catch 50-100, yes, that’s right, walleyes per PERSON, not per boat. They will all be 14-15 7/8″ long. The minimum size slot on the lake is 16″. And the limit is only 2 fish. I fished the lake 3 days last summer, while working in Aberdeen, and never caught less than 50 walleyes in just a few hours of fishing. The ticket for me was fatheads and slip bobbers on the outside edge of the flooded timber in the northern section of the lake. Usually in 6-9′ of water. It’s a blast. I got sick of catching so many and started cranking to try and catch some bigger fish. But I soon returned to the timber. The locals also catch them from shore using minnows and bobbers or shad raps.

Make sure you bring plenty of minnows. You won’t be disappointed.

This is a great lake to fish if the larger lakes are too windy- which is most of the time.

Have fun. PM me if you’d like some spots.
