I have the weekend off and am planning on fishing Lake Pepin Saturday and Sunday for the first time. I’m curious what the best method and general areas/depths/baits to fish in. I’d like to try Maiden Rock if possible and if the fish are biting over there. Where would be the best place to launch, I’m okay with Evert’s but am not sure how long a trip it would be and I’m a bit scared of hitting stuff in the lake. If I start at Evert’s how far down thru the cans do I need to go before I make the turn towards Maiden Rock? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

My best luck as of late has been trolling shad raps using lead core on shelves ranging from 16 to 20 feet. Caught about 24 fish the other day using this technique. Minnesota side near lake city.

How many colors out and what speed seemed to work?

We whacked some nice ones on leadcore yesterday too. If I could, I’d be back down there right now!

Check out this brief report for some details and a photo.

Speed changes day to day and hour to hour. I caught many fish between 2.5 and 3. Depths for me were in the 20-22′ range. At those speeds and depths, it was taking me ~ 5 colors. Of course, that changes if you change speed and depth.

I like to use 18lb lead, I know some people like to use 27lb.
