Hi everyone another fishing fanatic joining the ranks here,im from the midwest iowa/illinois mississippi river border looking forward to another great fishing season, fishing in my neck of the woods has been spotty due to heavy rainfall (always on my days off it seems).
Im heading out this friday the 12th for Canada heading to labelles birch point camp on rainy lake a place ive been going to now for about 10years really looking forward to it anyone have any good info on the smallie bite? im assuming grubs off the rocky points and early morning topwater. they up shallow? spawn over? ive heard the weather up there has been unseasonally cool hows that affecting things?
Thanks for reading this and good fishing everyone….

You should be hitting it about perfect.

SM Bass will be will be up shallow now. The fishing has been slow as it has been very cool this Spring. I would be looking for beds in any sandy bay. You are have hit the jackpot with your timing, this year.

This is one of the few seasons where the temps went up and then back in into the low 50’s in the back bays.

Shiner run is starting in the rivers. So you will be able to find pike and walleyes heading into the shallow water behind them. They are usually “off-limts” through June 15th as they are fish spawning areas and it is illegal to be in them prior to June 15th. (there is a reason that they are off limits)

The guys are Labelle’s are huge SM Bass guys and host a tournament in Sept where it takes a 4lb average just to finish in the top 10.

    Enjoy!!!

A couple of key baits that often go unnoticed at the big rainy, in the spring.

    1.) 4-5 inch suspending jerkbat
2.) #4 Mepps Spinner with Gold blade / brown&orange hair
    3.) Bettle Spin
    4.) Small 1/8 oz Chatterbait
5.) 1/8 oz stand-up jig with gulp minnow (Chart and Emerald Shiner work the best) – make sure you don’t forget the 2 inch model in the event of a cold front.

Obviously bring some tubes and senkos for the bed fish.

    Have fun.

I used these baits with great success two weeks ago.
