As long as a person can prove the ability, opportunity, and jeapordy of the situation they should be safe in criminal court.
Pretty much what I said… A slippery slope none the less.

It’s not a question of “If” my friends and I carry…it’s “How many?”

The 10 Commandments Of Firearm Safety
1. Treat every gun as if it were loaded.
2. Always be aware of where the gun’s muzzle is pointed.
3. Unload guns when not in use.
4. Be sure the barrel is clear of obstructions.
5. Be sure of your target before you pull the trigger.
6. Never point a gun at anything you do not want to shoot.
7. Never climb a tree or fence or jump a ditch with a loaded firearm.
8. Never shoot a bullet at a flat, hard surface or water.
9. Store guns and ammunition separately.
10. Avoid alcoholic beverages before and during shooting.
Please read number 8.
I carry because I’m selfish, I want to be able to go hame safely with my family, I don’t carry to pretend I’m a cop, nor to be a hero and save the masses from random crazy people, it’s only for me any my family as we escape out the back door. I carry so in case I ever needed it I could hopefully make it back home with my family.
Generally speaking I don’t carry when fishing, but I can’t support a reason why I don’t.
For BK…
And KFK…sorry you didn’t see my tongue firmly implanted in my cheek.

I cannot believe a CC instructor would tell someone to carry a knife to plant. I guess you get what you pay for in a CC class. I would have asked for my $ back. As long as you can prove to a jury that you were in fear for your life and had no way to leave the situation you should be good. A good instructor should have said you don’t want to carry any other weapon besides your gun. Carrying a gun and a knife, or baton leaves you with a choice about lethal force. This makes it hard to justify shooting someone if you have a knife or baton that you could have used to defend yourself. In civil court you would be screwed.
Having become a Concealed Weapon Carrier in Iowa recently I believe it is the right of everyone to protect themselves. There is nothing that says law enforcement has obligation to protect you.. I recently joined http://www.usconcealedcarry.com/members/welcome.cfm to help me understand Concealed Carry. If for no other reason the subscription is worth it for this to give to the officer responding…
In 9 pt Arial font, this will fit on a business card using the Business Card 3612 template:
If I have given this to you, it has been necessary to take actions to defend innocent life. I am willing to sign a criminal complaint against the perpetrators(s). I will point out witnesses and evidence.
As you may have experienced yourself, this is a stressful and traumatic experience for me. Therefore, I wish to make no further statements until I have contacted an attorney and composed myself. I also do not consent to any searches. I will cooperate fully once I have consulted with an attorney and calmed down. As a lawfully armed citizen, I ask for the same courtesy that you would show a fellow officer who was involved in a similar situation.
Thank you for your understanding.
Don’t forget you have just committed the ultimate act of self defense and YOU WILL need help.

And on the back side of the card you should have your lawyers name and number.
Wading through this long harrange of pros and cons of CC, brings to mind the old Boy Scout motto “Be Prepared”! Being a long time advocate of CC, reminds me of a former Vice President’s statement, which I unequivocally support, “Shot Happens”!
I have to admit that I have never washed the dishes until I convinced my wife to take the CC training! Now I do them daily with a smile!
I just prefer not to talk too much about this subject, god forbid that if I ever had to use it, it’s amazing what the lawers will dig up and twist around.
The reason I carry is it’s my right, I have fullfilled all the requirements and paid them my $$$ .

What???? I can’t hear yet
Interesting perspectives. Thanks IDO’ers!
For those who worry about self control may I suggest Body Mind Mastery by Dan Millman. A very well written book not only on sports psychology but for any “athlete” in the game of life.
Very interesting to read all these perspectives.
I live/work in the Twin Cities metro and on occasion have meetings downtown that puts me in some areas I don’t feel completely comfortable. In these areas, I “decide” where to walk and where not to, if you are following me….
My question to those who C&C, does the fact that you have a gun, make you feel so at ease that you’re not as concerned or perhaps don’t make the effort to avoid dangerous areas or situations?
Not for or against, just always relied on my judgement of certain areas or situations. I understand this cannot be 100% foolproof,…

I can’t speak for anyone but myself and have a hard time at that once in a while.
In the two classes I attended there was a large portion of time spent on how to avoid “those” places/scenarios. Where a person parks their car. Knowing where exits are when inside a building ect.
I will say there has been a few places in Mpls I’ve bank fished at night and a concealed weapon hasn’t made me feel any more comfortable. Bank fishing is better in groups.
