I just bought a alumacraft navigator tiller. It doesnt come with a radio and was wondering where other people have put them in their boats. I was thinking about puting it where the spec plate is or else up where the holes are buy the troller batterys. Also has anyone ever ran their radio off the trolling batterys I have a 24v system and was wondering if it will wreck the batterys if im tapping off one for this. Also what are some good sounding marine speakers that dont cost and arm and a leg?

Same here with an alumacrap 165 tiller, had no radio. I bought a PYLE kit from Cabelas, its ok. better than the nothing i had, i like the remote controll. i put one speaker in the forward storage below the bowmount off to one side of the little door and the other speaker in the storage compartment near the batt. box on the opposite side of the first spkr. so both are in the front facing back. i have a tiller so options were low, if i could do it again i would leave the front most spkr and put the other in the rod storage near the back more. i bought a 5″ hole saw to cut the spkr holes and another kit for the antenna. if you want to borrow it let me know i would be more than happy to let ya. ill be down to RW from the cities on june 13-14 so shoot a PM if ya want it for the weekend. the holes are nice, better than a jig saw. bought it cuz i could not get saw in to the locations.

Thanks, I never thought about puting one of the speakers up in the very front. Where did you mount the actual deck? Id like to have it back by me but I have a remote so I guess its not that big of a deal. also did you try leaving the antenna inside a compartment? I like good recepetion but dont like the antenna look. Thanks for the offer on tool borrowing. I have a big hole saw kit at work though.

I built a box for inside the driver compartment next to my finder, ill take some pics tonight.
i too hate bad reception, my buddy has the wire antena strung in his skeeter and it’s reception sux, so i went with a retractable antenna from Napa. 3′-1′ and removable. i mounted it in the back corner. works 99% of the time only 1′ tall but on occasion i have to raise it. Pros and cons I guess.

My boat dosent have a counsel. it has like a small gauge pod and my sonar is on a ram mount so its in the middle of nowhere. Im thinking about mounting it in the metal plate with all the safety stickers on it by my feet. Does anyone know if the coast guard sticker has to be on the boat and if so can you order replacement from alumacraft. What did you build the box out of? Im thinking that I should have some type of shield over it inside the locker.

The radio on my navigator 165 tiller is the high and rear part of port rod locker. So the radio face plate is just below my knees in front of me when fishing. 1 speaker is in the middle of back deck, forward facing panel, and 1 speaker on rear facing panel in front battery compartment. Antenna is a fold down deal next to gauge group.
