Need a boot

Looking for a lighter insulated boot, maybe 600 grams of insulation, Gore Tex, something I can wear in the spring summer fall on those cooler wet days, I have hiking boots, but they are little on the cool side and when not careful your rain suit can pull above the top and wet feet

Not looking at spending a fortune, Rockies are they decent, how about a Cabelas brand?

I have a pair of Danner Pronghorns with 600 grams and gore-tex. They are nice and light with a very ergonomic sole. With a nice pair of socks they make perfect early and late season fishing boots. I also wear them pheasant hunting. I’ve had them 4 years now with no signs of wear. I believe they are around $150. Hopefully this helps, Dan

I agree with Pronghorns, great boot! Light, comfy and keep the foot dry. Perfect boot for fall hunting, spring fishing, etc…

I have the 400G insulated boot, I find my other 600 and 800 boots a bit to warm/sweaty for hunting. My next hunting boot will be another pronghorn in the 200 or even uninsulated…the 400 is good but early season, warm weather they can be a tad to warm.

Cabelas Bargain Cave has Danner Pronghorn and Kestrels on sale for about half off. Only sizes 8 through 9.5 are left.

Picked up a pair of Kestrels and the are great.

I have to say I have always had rockies, but last fall I purchased a pair of the Cabelas branded boots and I couldn’t be happier with them

My 800 gram thinsulate Irish Setters have an aggressive tread and are very functional for me. They are gortex so waterproof, warm and tough. Light weight also. I spent $120.

Another vote for the Danner Pronghorn. I have a set of 400 gram and 1000. If you want to use them in the summer I would look at getting the 200 or uninsulated. I checked out the Cabelas bargain cave deal on the 200 gram, that’s a great price.

Kirt, I have a number of boots that you can try out.

    Stop down to Everts sometime.

They’re all in the XXXXL size.

I’d question the logic on the Pronghorns. Regarding that boot you really need to consider what you’d be standing on (flooring). I’d agree that they’d be a great fishing boot as long as your floor is carpet.

I love Danner and have many pairs, however the pronghorn is a failure as far as I’m concerned. The pair I had leaked, the sole’s are slippery as hell on anything other than field grass.

I’ve got a couple pairs of the Cabela’s version of Danner boots and I love them as well.

I have 600 gram Irish Setters with GorTex and they are great. Found them at Reed’s in Walker MN for about $69 last fall.

for what its worth, stay away from the goretex brand name. yeah everyone knows what it is, but lately its not the only technology out there. plus having the word goretex on anything is almost a 40% markup from that brands own breathable waterproof stuff.

i also have a pair of rocky rangers in 600s. i wore the crap out of those things, from deer hunting up near the bwca to upland hunting on 80deg days.. those things did it all. have you ever duck hunted in 5 inches of water in your hunting boots?! I HAVE!

My wife gave me a pair of Muck boots. When I got them, I thought they were kind of gay (just like the Crocs she gave me).

These are the Mucks I have.

I wear them spring, fall and winter. They are real light, comfortable, compact and very waterproof.
