what a crock this is!! besides, i would like to see them remove the 2500 sioux logo decorations in the Engelstad arena.

Engelstad’s conditions for the hockey and basketball arena’s and all other multimillion dollar donations were that the name and logo stay indefinitely. it will be interesting to see how this whole thing plays out…

They are expected to reach agreement with the two tribes so that the name will endure. One of the tribes has already agreed.

I heard that the Englestad legacy was based on the old man enforcing the rule. He died, and his Heirs don’t care.

Even if it does not change this year, it will happen eventually. Might as well get used to it. The University of North Dakota Howler Monkeys

I agree…Much of this stuff is provoked by meddlesome liberal “do gooders” with too much time on their hands…
I am 1/4 Native American and know many other NAs that really just want to be AMERICANS… When will the “sins” of the past ever be set to rest??? If we keep reward/rename/restore every cultural group that has been wronged/offended by our govt (forever) we will eventually cease to exist as America…

They could go back to their original name prior to being the fighting sioux, which was “The Flickertails”. Nothing more ominous than a happy squirrel flicking his tail.

    How ’bout chubby little groundhog.

That must be what you look like rooting through Tuckner’s tacklebox looking for the right bait.

I agree. It’s a sad day in an ever and ever beauraucratic and PC world. The recent tribal vote showed that a vast majority of Native Americans are in favor of the Fighting Sioux name. They are proud of the name usage and feel it helps them not to be forgotten. Leave it to the NCAA, that must have nothing else to do than turn overbearingly PC.

Regarding the Ralph, it is an off-campus facility and would not have to follow the NCAA’s guidelines, but will probably remove some Sioux logos. The Ralph will not sit empty – UND has shown the documents to the public and there is no truth to the myths.

Regarding a new nickname, I hope they go without a name for a few years – just “North Dakota.” Plus, I’d don’t think they’d stoop do a “rodent” nickname . . .
