As a newly transplanted SE MN person, I guess I wasn’t aware of the rules. I want to apologize to the Pro who I upset on Pool 4 this weekend.

I can see how you would get so frustrated with me. I can also understand you driving so close that you almost cut some of my gear.

I didn’t mean to be dragging cranks on the Wisc. Channel south of the Wisc. Channel Landing. I wasn’t aware it was your river. I could tell I upset you, since after I waved, you shook your head in disgust.

Next time you are on Pool 4 and I want to fish it. I’ll try and get my permission slip in on time so you can approve or deny it.

We’ve all been there, I had a guy just lay into me bass fishing one year. He came flying up a no wake zone where I was already fishing and cut me off. When I got to close to him he said cant you see I’m trying to fish this spot. I said just because you have a shirt with all those fancy patches and $45,000 boat doesnt mean you own the river. he gave me the old one finger salute and a whole bunch of choice words. There are some real classy acts out there thats for sure. Dan

There are jerks wherever you go… I will say that most Pro fishermen I know are not like those you have noted…but being an ex tournament fisherman I can tell you that some do that even within the tournament group.
Next time a tournament contestant comes dangerously close to you or does some other nasty deed…get his name or boat number and turn him in…The associations that run Tournaments will not take kindly to that behavior.

It’s too bad that you had to experience that. These tournaments are held on public waterways and regardless of how much they are trying to win their right to be there is no more important than yours.

To be fair, it was a tighter area of the river. Others did it as well. However the others gave me an apologetic wave for doing it. I’m cool with that, I understand. However this one dude chose to act like I was in the wrong.

I know most are good guys. I’m just hoping this one Tool decides to read my post. I want him to know that I know he’s a Tool.

Unfortunately the people like that will never understand how much of a D-Bag they really are. I fish a lot of tournaments and can tell you that we all know who the A-Holes are. They have a reputation within the tournament community, and are pretty much black listed from most groups of anglers.

There are bad eggs in every group, unfortunately money is on the line here and it brings out the worst in some people. I hope this one Yahoo doesn’t tarnish anybody’s idea of tournament anglers, because most of us would rather go fishless and loose our money than ruin somebodies day.

Too bad you’re not out fishing today, you’d have the little honey hole all to yourself!

Ya I was all prepared to go off about getting crowded out not once but twice by the same boatload in the Hudson channel last Friday. I’ve decided that life’s too short to get all that excited about it. jerr

the best thing you could have done was turn the boat around and just idle away…..after trimming the motor way up and making sure it is revving ok, and “shower” him with apologies…

a jerkoff like that deserves zero respect. another option is to just follow him around the rest of the day and fish right on his doorstep…it is public water anyways…

I love that idea. I’ll put that one away for use another day.

Some people think they own the river, but most share it with the rest of us, its to bad a few inconsiderate guys out there are like that. The bottom line I’ve seen in the last week is that those people like him do’nt care about you or me. I fished the League and the tour last week and thank God I was up in pool 3.After the MWC clears out this week end we’ll have the river to ourselves.Good luck fishing this spring.

    Tom hit it perfectly
“Next time a tournament contestant comes dangerously close to you or does some other nasty deed…get his name or boat number and turn him in…The associations that run Tournaments will not take kindly to that behavior. “

Tournament rules generally will have a code of conduct their contestants must follow. This also indludes distance from any other anglers regardless if their in the tournament or not.

well I know for bass fishing, you are to respect the locals or others on the lake while you are fishing and pre fishing for the tournament. all it does take is one phonecall to one of them names on that patch, they will know who it is by decribing the boat and the guy, they don’t like to have thier name associated with that. sorry to hear about your rotten couple of moments on the water, that just sucks.

It’s too bad to hear about all these stories. Lots of things happen out on the water that shouldn’t, that’s for sure. Some things happen off the water that aren’t too good either. I had my tires flattened a few months back because a certain guy doesn’t like my information I post on here. I keep forgetting he owns all the waters I fish. And here I thought they were public….

Most of the pros I have met have been class acts–some, not so much. Money does weird things to people, and in some cases robs them of the innocent enjoyment of fishing-that is the real crime. I guess, deep down I feel sorry for the person.

One thing I would like to recommend to every day anglers and tournament guys alike is ask that when you come into or upon and area where others are fishing, look around and watch what pattern people are utilizing. If someone is parked off structure or a shoreline and casting towards it, you should not try to go between them and that structure! If someone is trolling an area, and you start cutting across their lines, that is also not acceptable! We had guys this weekend set their anchor right in front of our bobbers. Now if it is was us, we would not have done this to them. I think we should just try as a group to be a little more considerate of others. I asked my partner a few times this weekend…”What do you think?” “Are we too close to them?” “Should we move out away from them?” Common courtesy goes a long way. What you think is acceptable may be very aggrivating to another. There is no problem in saying “Is it OK that I fish here?” if you are the second one into an area…or even saying “I am pitching to this area here, maybe you couldn’t see that?” More often than not you will get a positive response I have found.

Maybe I’m not understanding you correctly… Are you saying you were trolling and came across another boat trolling, you waved and he shook his head in disgust?

I hope there was more to the story then that…. sounds like a bit of an over reaction to me.

    I’ll hang up and listen..

Yes, you are misunderstanding. I was trolling cranks and using yellow birds to run the outside plugs. Mr. COOL PRO was running full tilt (50+ MPH) and choose to basically hit my outside board as he went buy and cut me off. It’s not like my board was more than 15′ from the boat either. I’m thinking I under reacted.

I am glad no one got hurt. That can’t imagine anyone thinking that would be a safe speed at that range. I can only imagine what my the initial reaction would have been. My only guess is that it would have been the wrong one.

i think you should post his boat number, name if known, and any info about him, so everyone knows who this jerkoff is and we then can give him the ol’ One Finger Salute if we see him.

Ah, I’m going to take the high road this time. I’m sure this guy will pull the same stuff and get himself in trouble. I know I will only let it slid once.

I wonder what would have happened if you pulled out a camera and started snapping pics?
