New Pole Help?

I need help finding a pole that can fit an all around fishing purpose for 3 species. Need something to cast cranks for walleys and some cheap trolling, and supplement some bass fishing, at the same time maybe northerns here and there. Will be fishing mainly metro area lakes. Don’t know if I should go “baitcaster” or “spinning”.

I was thinking maybe an SC Avid MedHev Fast tip? on a Saros 2500. Not sure if I should go that route or a bait casting route with a decent low profile reel? Need help deciding. All my current rods are all Medium Light or muskie rods. Looking for one rod to fit the inbetween. Wondering if anyone has a similiar setup that has worked good.

Thats a tough middle ground…but since you have the ML and MH-Heavy covered…I would consider a 68MXF either Spin or BC… Including Walleye (jigging and/or casting stick baits and some trolling) Bass plastics… and an occassional Pike…I would probably opt for an AVS68MXF and consider a Pfleuger 8035 or Shimano-2500 reel…
Don’t overlook the SC MOJO series for $90…especially if you are mainly casting/trolling cranks and don’t need the super sensitivity of the higher priced models.

I am kind of looking for the same thing. I want something that i can pitch jigs with, cranks, spinners, etc. Probably looking at a baitcasting rod, but you could obviously use a spinning rod too. I dont really like how guys make it seem like you need 30 different rods and reels. Those darn mojo rods specify exactly what type of bait they are for….. marketing?? I would probably go medium-heavy since you are trying to cover a broad range of uses, you dont want to go too light.

I have a mojo spinnng rod MXF with a pfluger president reel on it and I really like it. Nice fast tip and great back bone. I caught a 25 lbs carp this spring walleye fishing and the rod handled it no problem. As for casting cranks or trolling cranks I cant comment. I plan on throwing cranks for smallies with the rod this summer and cant wait. you would be happy with an avid or mojo M or MH with a fast tip. It all depends what you like in a rod and how it feels in your hand. Good luck, Dan

It like hunting I don`t take my 30-06 squrrel hunting, I use a 22 but I don`t use my 22 for bird hunting.

Rods are tools I use and each has a place and purpose. Some will cross over better then others but there is not one tool that can do it all at an exceptable level for me.

I would look at the Limit Creek rods, the casting rod Medium 6’6″ rod is a great multi-purpose rod. I use it for trolling cranks, casting spinners and such for pike, and casting cranks.

If you want a spinning model the smoothie Limit Creek is great multi purpose as well.

Both rods are priced very well and are built to perfection.
