Is anyone running the new Fortrex? I’m in the market to replace my maxxum and the fortrex looked good. I just don’t know anyone who has one. If you got is it worth the money or would you pick something else?

Bassmaster, I can tell you that our customers have loved the Fortrex thus far. Of course, it’s early yet, but the word we have gotten back it’s that it’s an improvement over the Maxxum, which was a favorite for many of our past customers. I haven’t had a good chance to test one on the water but I will be putting the Fortrex 101 to the test in about 10 days and I’ll report back my personal experience after the trip.

Overall, the mount seems to be very solid and quiet. Looks to be a nice unit…
May 6, 2009 at 12:01 pm #774313I put an 80lb. Fortrex on my new Alumacraft 185CS and love it. I had the Maxxum before which was also a great motor. The lift assist is a big plus. I did notice that the temp was different from the rear reading but only by a degree or so. Most the time I run the motor with the foot switch but did try running it with the motor on and my foot off the pedal. It run a straight line and didn’t swing around like the Maxxum would.
May 6, 2009 at 12:44 pm #774329I have been running the 101 36V 45″ Fortrex all spring. It is a great unit. Lift assist is excellent and it is a beast. When stowed it doesn’t move a twitch in rough seas. 100% on this unit is absolutely insane. Pulls my 20ft Skeeter at almost 3mph, I almost dumped my brother in the water showing him when I decided to take a hard left.
As for the temp being off, to be completely accurate you need to put an offset in your electronics. There should be a setting depending on what units you run to calibrate the temperature, if you have HB’s shoot me a IM and I can walk you through how to do it. All digital temperature probes require calibration to be accurate on your display, as your sonar is just converting the voltage it recieves from the sensor into a digital number for you to read. Once you put in the offset you will be set. Also beware that if it is sitting in the sun all afternoon stowed and you drop it in the water it will take a bit to cool off.
Have heard some complaints about the foot switch being too sensitive or not sensitive enough, which is easily adjustable underneath the on/off tab by movement of the actual switch underneath. Tension of the shaft (ease of foot pedal use)can also be adjusted on screw directly underneath where the cable enters the footpedal. Even if you are happy with how yours works now, play around with it, you will find a perfect spot. I like to run mine pretty tight.
Any questions, shoot me a message or post and I’ll try to answer my best.
I just converted from MotorGuide and I love this thing.
