How to select the right Beckman Net… tips from a bass angler:
Submitted by Tom Donaldson –
How important can a net be to a Bass angler? That answer can be served up under one word. “Unconditionally” important leaps to mind and jumps off the tongue as the first word that comes to mind. When getting fish into my boat, for me there is no more important tool. Most of the fishing I do I do alone as the sole angler in the boat and as such I rely on Beckman Nets as an integral part of my fishing success. The ultra-strong yokes, extendable handle and deep bag of the BT22284 Walleye Net are a complete package that no other net manufacturer offers.
The BT22284 Walleye Net is advertised as a Walleye Net, but it’s not ‘just’ a Walleye net. There’s no species of fish which I chase that won’t fit into it’s hoop. Primarily, I pursue Bass, but that doesn’t mean I don’t occasionally catch a large Northern Pike, Catfish or Carp. No matter the size, shape or color if I hook it up and manage to get it to the side of the boat my Beckman will swallow it up.
Being a family man, getting home safely is my ultimate goal when fishing. I can ensure that by using the handle extension on the BT22284 Walleye Net. When extended that 9 feet of net handle goes a long way (pardon the pun). I don’t have to worry about getting off-balance or leaning over the gunnel of the boat trying secure a large fish. I can rest the handle on the gunnel and draw the fish into the net, thus keeping me safe and keeping the fish cradled in the net safe from potential harm. As far as I’m concerned, it’s a win-win scenario for the fish and myself. Along with that I depend on my net to be at the ready during tournament hours. I lay the net across the beam of the boat, resting it on the gunnels between my tournament partner and myself. By doing so, the net is immediately accessible by my partner and myself. I can’t do that with short handled nets. When seconds count in netting a fish, Beckman leads the way.
I believe the bag on the BT22284 is what really makes this package shine. As I mentioned earlier, the depth of the net helps me keep fish safe, but it also helps me keep fish secure. Those other nets, especially the rubber variety lack the depth, and that alone can lead to disaster when tournament fishing. A 4lb Smallmouth Bass with a hearty flip and twist can bounce completely out of those nets. When fish like that are in high demand, risking losing them isn’t acceptable. Beckman Nets make sure my tournament fish find their way into my livewell. Along with the depth, the Treated-Hook Proof net keeps my baits in the water, and not buried in a net. There’s absolutely nothing more time consuming and frustrating than trying to pick a lipless crank out of a net that doesn’t have a treated net.
