Good luck, Jack! Luck was on your side with that pig sturgeon. It will stay with you through the surgery.

My prayers to you and Katie. Your faith will be your strength to help you through this.May 1, 2009 at 2:24 am #772912Ya know Jack, when I’ve had to go to the dentist or the doc, I always try to think about the last good fish I’ve caught.
This sucker should get you through most anything.
May 1, 2009 at 3:11 am #772926You and your family are in our prayers Jack! Look forward to hearing great news from you soon.
May 1, 2009 at 3:19 am #772929I pray you have a very speedy and complete recovery. I went through all that a few years back. Did everything I was told and then some. Had 40 radiation treatments. Last 2 weeks twice a day. I did not burn as many people did when I was having mine. Drank lots of ice water. My mouth got very dry. So therefore was not good eating. But I searched for food that would agree with me. mashed potatoes with lots of butter, scrambled eggs, toast dunked in green tea, and chicken noodle soup without the chicken. A drink or 2 of water with every little bite of food. You have to do it or they will put a feeding tube in you. If I survived it and I know you can. Won’t be easy but hang in there. DO NOT drink any carb drinks. Send me a PM if you need any more info.

May 3, 2009 at 3:40 am #773362Hi All,
Am going to try and give an update since my surgery Friday.First of all, I’d like to say how much Katie and I appreciate the support and prayers so many members have sent over the last couple of days.
The surgery started on Fri about noon, and took almost 3 hours, it is called a radial neck disection.
The surgeon told Katie that everything went really well, and this morning in the hospital, the dr doing the rounds for my surgepn, said everything really looked great.
He signed release papers and told the nurse that I could leave in the afternoon, if I could handle my morning liquid breakfest, and light lunch.
I got home about 4pm, and have been staying on my medications. My neck is really getting stiff, and my whole right side neck is totally numb up past my ear. I now have a huge scar from below my ear, down to my colar bone and over.
The Dr said NO heavy anything for 10 days, but I did ask, HOW ABOUT some Crappie fishing, he thought that might be okay.
I’ll be laying low for awhile. We really appreciate your support, and especially your prayers.
We hope each of you have a God Blessed weekend.

May 5, 2009 at 12:32 pm #773927Jack,
glad to hear your home and on your way to a great recovery. (don’t push the recovery-seems someone always catches a 20# northern while crappie fishing) Your still in my prayers.May 5, 2009 at 4:05 pm #773993It is sure great to hear good news on the result of the surgery. Forget the scar. You are the same good person that you were before surgery and a lot more healthier. Don’t push it but I will look forward to your fishing reports in the future.
May 7, 2009 at 1:24 am #774571I had my Dr follow up visit this afternoon.
He took out about 48 nodes in the right side lymph system, and only the original 2 nodes shown any positive results.I am regaining some movement, but everything is quite tender, and it will be awhile to be 100 %.
I still have the issues in the tongue base that will needs to be dealt with. The Dr is meeting with an oncology review board on monday to dicuss my case and talk about any further treatment. Radiation seems likely, but not chemo.
Thanks for the continued prayers, pm’s, and those of you who called, it’s greatly appreciated.
Jack
