i think the only chance the Vikes have of ever accomplishing a winning season is to have Brett leading them as quarterback. It’s really that simple. He would take them from a high school team to something somewhat resembling a pro team. LOL

Maybe he should go back to the Packlers….. I am SURE he could help them improve on a 6-10 season.

Why no 0% option that he’ll become a Viking? I love how hopeless Vikings fans must feel if they think getting a soon to be 40 year old qb with a bum arm helps their chances.

I think Brett wants to sign with the Vikings.

A 1 day contract so he can retire as a Viking!

And sadly, he’d still be the best QB on the roster.

Favre wants to get back in his old division so bad he’ll come out on the field in a walker if it means he can beat the Packers or the Bears. He’s still pissed at The Packers head office, and revenge is a dish best served COLD!!!!!

Yep, He will be a Viking for sure. I’m not sure if I like it but it’s going to happen.

farve wanted OUT of Green Bay, plain and simple. The problem was he did not think enough people were kissing his feet. He could have played there as long as he wanted, he wanted to take his toys elsewhere though. Maybe it had to do with his last game there in the cold…

By the way, the Packers lost about 9 games with their defense on the field last year, I do not think Favre would help too much there.

Yesterday, I thought Farve’s chances of becoming a Vike were slim to none. I’ve done a 180 now. His hatred of the Packers front office is a great motivating factor. I’d also bet he will offer to play for the vikes for close to nothing in salary.

That being said, I hope he does go to the Vikes. He’ll do a good job of disrupting their qb situation even more than it is already.

As for whether he is motivated to come back and beat the Bears? Why would he be? Hasn’t he beat them enough already?

Farve may have been 22-10 Vs Da Bears, but he was only 2-6 since Lovie took over in 2004. Maybe he saw a pattern developing???

    Randy,
I really had no idea what his record was against the Bears, but knew he beat them up pretty good for several years. If Farve didn’t see a pattern developing, I know I did. I wouldn’t blame the more recent pattern solely on Farve. Since Lovie took over, he sure gets the Bears jacked up for the Pack.

Yeah,, was it Lovie that said in his news conf. after being hired that he had one goal,, to beat the pack! And then went out and did it twice! And I think this is when the Bears were below average and the Pack was pretty good! Dang, long time ago!

It was just a year and a half ago I watched old Favre shred the Vikes defense for 351 yards and 3 Td’s in the last game he ever played against them, we took the Viking fans for $100 next to us tailgaiting, they sure were nice guys but pretty quite after the game. Seems like only yesterday, of course Favre’s last year in GB he put up MVP like numbers. But hey that is all gone now and Favre cant let it go. I think it would be fun to watch Favre in Purple but I think he is scared of his old age and the new young guns in the Norse division in Cutler, Rodgers and now Stafford. If not we get to watch the combo of RosenJack or Tavarsthol, any way you dish it up the Vikings have no chance in the divison this year

Seems it was just on November 9th 2008, that the Vikings beat the Pack & the Green part of the crowd was pretty quiet at the end of the game….. Touche !!!!

I for one can’t understand the misdirected anger towards Favre and this news. This is sports writers making a story where none would exist otherwise. The Jets released Favre and the writers make all kinds of assumptions and predictions and that is Favre’s fault? I’m not sure who looks dumber the sports writers or those calling Favre to the mat for it.

That said should Favre decide to again come back and play so be it. I hope if he does it is with the Vikings and he leads them not only to a winning season but to a successful post season and a Super Bowl win. Then and only then will some finally understand what it is that made this guy special all these years. Of course it would, for years, give Packer fans ammo that trumps any wise crack a Vikes fan might have.

Vikes fan: Cheese heads sucked this year, only went 1-15.

Packer fan: Yeah, well a retired Packer QB took your team to their only SB victory!

They retired him…. remember, he didn’t. He played for the Jets. If he “chooses” to retire now, so be it, if he doesn’t, then he is not retired. It is all Favre’s call, not the Packers, not the Jets, not the Vikings… it’s is one Brett Favres decision. Technically, he has yet to retire That would be spending a game, out of the NFL Hasn’t happened yet…. BTW, I agree with riveratt…. WOW… thats saying something

Excellent point. Favre wouldn’t actually be retired until he sits out at least one game while not signed to a team IMO. A very perverse and selfish part of me wants Favre to come back and play. I would be lying outta my if I said Favre isn’t my favorite all time NFL player. I realize at some point it will come to and end, and likely already did. Never the less I loved watching the guy play!

I’m not sure what part you agreed with me on G but stop it! That is borderline stalking!

I agree the media makes stories, they don’t report on them… I agree Favre is a guy who loves the game and didn’t want to say goodbye to it. I agree he was a great player. I agree Packer fans would somehow try to take credit for a Viking superbowl with Favre…. that’s OK, then technically the Eagles, aka (Reggie White) won the superbowl for the Packers in ’97

I agree that it’s all media hype, Favre sells papers and makes for good headlines. It’s not of his doing this time around.

I’d be SHOCKED if Favre came out of “retirement”. I think last year in New York was enough to make him realize that it’s over, and that he’s no longer calling the shots.

On top of that, I don’t think there’s too many teams, the Viking included, that would return his calls.

IF he did come back, there’ll be no Superbowls or MVP trophies, just an old man reminding us all of the downside to having Brett Favre as your QB (inconsistency and costly interceptions) and why gimpy 40 year old men don’t play QB in the NFL.

Why do you think they were so reluctant to give him a long term (more than one year) contract? If he was 30, they’d have been tripping over themselves to lock him up for 5+ years at insane dollars.

Take away what are possibly the two best WRs in the NFL on either side of him, and the fact he plays in the worst division in football, and Warner is Vinny Testaverde.

I see a mediocre season coming for him, hopefully he doesn’t return to the Warner of old – injury prone, fumbleitis, and sacked every 3 snap.

I’m not saying guys can’t play in their late 30s, they certainly can, and there’s plenty of proof of it. BUT, they are “veteran” QBs – they manage games, take what the defense gives them, throw short passes, limit turn overs, hand the ball off a lot, etc…, all things that Favre is genetically incapable of doing.
