water pump??

I am going to have the water pump replaced on my 06 optimax 115. Simple preventive maintenance, do not have any problems. There have been some great posts in the past on how to do it yourself but I am not that brave yet. So I called a local dealer. He quoted $225.00 to replace pump with a new pump kit. Does that sound like a fair price and when I do get this done is there anything else I should do while the lower unit is off? I remember somebody posted said you should replace the plate also. I would assume that comes with the new kit. I thank you for any advice in advance!

That is not too out of line. Figure $80hr labor (One hour job)$45 for the pump/impeller kit and $100 to the shop owner.

I’d have all of the fault codes read (if any), plugs changed, inspect the drive belt for excessive wear. 2006 motor should be in pretty good shape.

Jon I have replaced plugs and the belt is in good shape also replaced fuel and air filter. Pump was the last maintenence item on my list and wanted to get it right, so I thank you for your advice. You mentioned having the codes checked and I was wondering, is there a specific reason for doing so? Thanks.

No other reason other than having the boat at the shop. Shouldn’t cost anything to print off a report.
