I was looking 10lbs test line last night , I aways buy the same brand . But I looked at others the diameter was different, one band was .12 an other was .14 .So I looked at 8lbs test samething one was .10 the other brand was .12. How does that work ???

Different lines are composed of different materials to achieve the same strength.

WW is right they are composed of different compounds. “mono” as we all call it is actually mono-filliment meaning one strand. it is solid and not multiple strands braided or wolven.
mono is composed of different materials to achieve different chareristics like limpnes, stretch and abrasion resistance. you may need more of one element to achieve abrasion resistance vs. limpmess

Yup, mono is an overall class of lines, but all mono is not created equal, nor do all makes/models of mono of equal test have equal diameters.
