So with the help of some great friends i was able to get myself back into a boat! I just purchased a 16ft 1981 Lund S-16 with a 1982 Johnson 35hp Seahorse!

The boat has brand new carpeting, bow mount trolling motor, brand new, never been used seats among other nice things. There are a few things that need some TLC here and there, but that’s to be expected from a 28 year old boat!

The best thing was, after sitting for 2-3 year (the motor was run once in a while with fuel stabilizer in the tank) it fired up on the first try!!!!

I’m excited and I’ll be trailering this up to Crane Lake and Voyagers for my job this summer!!!!!!!!

Don’t forget to check the trailers bearings before you take it out. They may not have been maintained if the boat was sitting 2-3 years, and you sure don’t want to burn them out your first trip to the lake.

Looking good It might be wise to put a little money aside for a 3 pack of light blue underwear You know who to check with for the right shade.

Nice rig! Just take your time in going through everything to make it is well maintained. Hopefully We’ll meet up around here for some browny action

    WW,
That boat sure looks familiar. We had a 1974 16 ft Lund with a 1978 35 hp Johnson on it. This picture of my dad shows a newer motor on it that we used on our last trip to LOW. Between my dad, 2 brothers, and myself, that thing never got a break. It cruised from Hudson to the Kinni more time than one could count. It made more trips to Canada than I will in my lifetime. We had this boat for close to 20 years. Bought it for $1000 and sold it for $1000. I don’t think we had to put more than 200.00 into it the entire time we owned it. It earned the nickname “Warrior”. Congrats on your new boat. That thing is going to be a chick magnet too.

Get ahold of Blue Fleck (Tom Donaldson) have him make you a couple of 12″ high “Walleye Wisdom” decals for the side of the boat. That way I can say hi when I see you up there this summer.

    Nice boat.

Thanks guys! Brian, good idea, I think that will be my first purchase for the boat, some Walleye Wisdom decals for her!

Jighead, don’t give him a big head yet, he may never change those blue undies if he keeps catching fish in them….

And yes, it has an amazing custom cover for the boat, helps keep prying eyes around the campus here out of my boat… Maybe i can get some theft deterrent decals from Blue Fleck stating the consequences to deal with if you mess with my boat
Hopefully I can keep this one off the bottom of clear lake….

I’ve caught some of the biggest fish of my life out of trusty boats like yours! I love to fish out of small boats and prefer my 1979 14′ Alumacraft with a ’79 evinrude .99hp to most other boats. Except on windy days

    You are living the dream!

Don’t take this the wrong way, but if I was you I would never come back once you get up there. I lived in Ely for five years, working for DNR trails and waterways in Tower and also for the US Forest Service in Cook. My area was Crane, Loon, LaCroix, that whole area, and the worst thing I ever did was chase the almighty dollar and move down to this cess-pool of traffic, crime, and concrete.

Enjoy your new position and do whatever it takes to live out your life up in God’s country…you will never regret it. Live within your means and you will do just great and be surrounded by superb scenery and fishing for a long time to come. Have fun and keep us posted!
