I just read in Pierre’s Capitol Journal newspaper that the big lake is up 20′ from last year at this time and expected to rise another 3′ in April. I’ve also been hearing that the lakes in the Black Hills are at full levels also. jerr

The Black Hills has received a load of snow recently. 30 inches in Deadwood just a couple weeks back. I’m guessing they topped the 100 inch mark again this year.

However, Oahe’s main runoff comes from the Rockies. If they had a good snow pack this year, the lake will continue to rise. It’s good to see the lake climbing back to a normal level. I lived in Pierre in 97 when it was at an all time high. Just wish I could have seen it at it’s lowest for comparison sake.

Good luck out there this summer!!

At it’s lowest it was ugly. The Hills area has had blizzards the last 3 weekends in a row. Oahe is projected to be at 3′ over normal pool in the next month. Perfect timing for me. We got our place out there at a reduced price because the lake was so low and it was scaring off out of state buyers. With the water back up the lake is going to return to it’s glory days again—at least I hope it does!

Plenty of room Jerr and the view is to die for. Definitely not selling Erick, another year and it should be my permanent address. I am thinking on renaming it Evert’s West. Right now it is called Redneck Retreat!

I’ve heard the lake is up 7′ to 9″ in the last month, so it will be back to full pool in no time. Eric, is your new place up near Mobridge? I’ve been looking for a lot or small house on the lake near Bushes or Mobridge for awhile without much luck. Should be a year year of fishing with very nice-sized fish.

The lake is definitely up. My father is using the original ramp in Okobojo bay that has been completely out of the water for the last 4 years. WE love to see the water level rising, however, we will need to find new hot spots once again. It seems like every year the water level drastically changes, which changes the way we need to fish. There are going to be a LOT of cotton wood trees in 8 to 12 foot of water now that will play havoc with the tackle box.
