I am in the market for a soft tonneau cover for my truck. What do guys have on your trucks. What are your likes or dislikes?

If you have a Dodge Dakota extended cab (6 1/2 foot bed) I have a Tonneau cover you can have.

I had an Access soft rollup on my 8′ box F-350. I liked it for the most part but it wasn’t overly weather proof and it was kind of a pain trying to pack multiple guys’ ice fishing gear and hunting gear under a tonneau cover for long road trips. I was also worried about forgetting my tailgate down. I did a couple times and luckily I never lost anything. The roll up cover did make it nice for hauling big things and loading and unloading gear…you could just roll it up and the whole box was open.

However….I went with a topper on the silverado I bought back in Oct. Personally….I won’t have another truck without a topper just way more functional for me.

a couple buddies of mine really like their low-profile truxedos. if i could do it all over again, i’d prolly go that route.

i went the cheap way and picked up a lund from fleet farm. its ok, nothing fancy, its nice that everything rolls up and theres a locking mechanism in the back to keep it down. personally i think the cheaper ones sit too high out of the box. i have nothing bad to say about them other than i wish they sat in the bed a lil deeper. the fabric has help up great, ive had it 3 years now and the only negative i’ve noticed is a little fade from being in the sun 24/7.

i hear ya buckshot… they arent weatherproof. mb the new ones are different, but there is no seal above the tailgate on mine. the sides and front dont leak, but i get a lot of water sneaking in above the tailgate. if you want/need waterproof and lockable, get fiberglass.

    Hey Jake,

I have a Truxedo Roll up cover.

Had it for about a year, pretty happy with it. Only complaint is that its not totally weather proof, some still sneaks in somewhere, haven’t put the time in to track it down.

I like that it opens/closes really easily/quickly, I can still haul big things (wheeler) and I can open up half of it when i need to jump in the back of the truck loading/unloading the boat!

And it was priced very reasonable.

I have an Access Rollup cover on my 05 Silverado, bought it in the spring of 06. They have been one of the top roll up covers made, a very solid product.
But, if I could buy one today, I would buy a Truxedo Low Pro QT model. Very clean look, appears to have a better weather seal, spring tensioned, so no need to adjust between winter/summer, and the best feature, to me, that my Access Cover cannot do as well is… Easily REMOVEABLE! simply roll it up, and pop 2 pins and its out. This is nice when hauling an ATV…I have a couple of bolts holding my cover in, so it’s it’s more effort. I worry about damaging my rolled up cover everytime I haul it.

Do NOT buy a toneau that snaps on with like 50 buttons. I bough a previously enjoyed truck that had it and i could not give the thing away quick enough. they are much cheaper for a reason, your thumbs will be broken.

I have an Access cover on my 02 Silverado that came off my ’00 Silverado. It is finally showing it’s age after 9 years, but I am buying another one for my Ram. For a roll up cover they are the best. Truxedo’s (the ones I have seen) are similar and less expensive, but not quite as nice as the Access.

I like the hard bed covers. They don’t flap like the soft ones and are a lot more theft resistant…

The velcro was worn out on my Truxedo cover (on the truck and on the cover) They sent me a new cover and new velcro stips for the bed rails, no questions asked.
My next cover will also be a truxedo

Dan, I agree, but if I could get by with that, I would drive an SUV. Just my opinion.

Grump, that is great! How old was it? The velcro on my Access lasted about 7 years. It still sticks after 9 years, but not real well.

There was only a price difference of 20.00 when I priced the Extang covers.I went with the snapless, had a snap one in the past.Thumbs sure did not like it,esp in cold temps.

I went with the Extang Fulltilt, nice cover that flaps very little and does not balloon. On and off in no time.

I meant a hard “tonneau” bed cover – not a topper. I have a three piece bed cover and would get another one. Easy for one person to remove/install, and unlike toppers, there’s no window for undesirables to peer through.

I HATE toppers – bad visability out the back of the truck and I REALLY hate crawling around inside them. They are generally more weather-proof, but that’s the only plus in my opinion.

I thought you were talking about a hard fiberglass cover like shown above. Very nice, but not practical for everyone.

The roll up covers seem to work the best for people with atv’s, snowmobiles, ladders, etc.

I think some of the posts here about Truxedo are the only nice things I have ever heard about them?? I wonder if they have improved the quality?? Most of the ones I have seen look like they are 10 years old and a little breeze will rip them right off. I haven’t had any issues with Access. I’m going on year 5 and the Velcro is fine, the cover is tight, and still don’t get any water inside.
