I was looking on line at composite props and i was wondering if any one uses them? Are they worth the money? From what i have read they are almost as good as any alum / stainless on the market for a lot less money. I for somereason keep dinging mine up. Just trying to get a little feed back from the guys who know.

What HP is the motor? Where do you fish rivers or lake? How often to you bang your prop?

I fish a little of both places ( river and lakes). i head up the that country above us also. I don’t bang it up all the time but it happens. usuly on lakes i have never been on. The shallow rock seem to find me. its a 2000 50 hp merc two stroke

You might want to consider buying one for when you hit a new water. keep your Alum for the lakes you know. That will save in repair bills.

You wont get the same performance you are used to, they flex in the cup. When or if you buy one consider 1 or 2 pitches deeper from the Alum prop.

I have used several, and they make a GREAT back-up prop. Not much of a selection in pitch ranges though.

Durability seems good, but have never hit rocks yet…

I wonder about those Piranha props though.Never hear much feedback on them.

A composite prop will not take the dings that an aluminum will. I had a composite prop once and the launch rope snuck over the side while under power and was just long enough to tick the prop. I ended up limping in on a one blade prop so for my 2 cents it is much cheaper to fix the dings than buy a new composite prop.

Had a composite prop long ago . IF YOU DING THE ROCKS EVEN SLIGHTY THE PROP IS TOAST!!!!!! get yourself an aluminum prop you’ll be much happier…..

Sand will kill it, literally. I had one on the motor when i bought my last boat, i run shallow water in the rivers a lot. I didn’t use the boat but 3-4 times and my prop was half the diameter when i started…

I’d look on Ebay for a used aluminum prop before I’d buy a composite.

Bingo!!! I would do the same thing. Just last month I wanted to get a aluminum prop with a lower pitch from the one I was running. It looks like new and I got it for a fraction of new $22.50 plus something like $12.00 for shipping.

Sounds like those composite props whittle down to nothing just touching anything.

I second the notion of a decent back-up prop. When I bought this last boat the previous owner threw in a 4 blade CompProp. It runs the same as a 3 blade aluminum prop. Does not compare to stainless though. I have only run the CompProp after tearing up my primary though.
