I normally fish Truman lake and most of the time below the dam. If they are not letting out water, fishing is always slow. The river swings around a small bend where there is about 500 yards of slack water with depths of 7 to 25ft. The river continues on to Lake of the Ozarks. my question is being new to walleye fishing, would you recommend dragging jigs, vertical jigging, or live bait rigs. Just received a good assortment of BfishN jigs and am anxious to try them out, just not sure what to do. Thank You!

The stocking program down there for the last 8 years has a pretty good population built up.

If the water is up around 46-48 degrees like it was last year at this time the fish will be spawning and going to and from spawning areas(Dam, Feeder streams if they are not too muddy.and all the flat gravel points from the dam down)… if it was me I would slowly troll/drag a rigging jigging rig.(three-way swivel with jig used as a dropper down 8 inches with about a three foot line off the other swivel hole with a #4 bare hook). Obviously the third hole is attached to your line from the pole.
Truman is somewhat unique in that walleye will often get on a worm or crawler bite quicker than a lot of other walleye waters. So my suggestion is to start with minnows on both the jig and the straightline bare hook, and if they don’t respond change one of them over to a crawler. You probably already know which of the flat gravel points are covered with lumber and on those I usually use either a bottom bouncer or a very light weedless jighead.

For some reason also, probably because they see so many go by from bass fishermen, suspending jerk baits also work on those flat gravel points that allow you to get around the timber. Hope this helps . Happy hook-ups Lawrence
