I know there are some boat dealers out there, so I would like some ideas on how to buy a new boat. For new cars there is an invoice and dealer cost can be figured with some research, giving you a price to negotiate from. Boats are a little different. When you look at new boats, how do you know where to start. Typically, I get quoted a number, but lack proper documentation to back it up. There are “retail” prices for boats, and motors + rigging costs. What is average markup on a 20′ walleye boat? What can I do to negotiate my best cost. I do want to have a good relationship with my dealer, so I don’t want to give them the you know what either. Is a factory order a better way (then they don’t have their cash tied up in the deal)?
