I want to put a bigger motor on my flat. Apparently they don’t make a short shaft for a 40hp 4 stroke. I am sure some of you guys already dealt with this so I was wondering what you did. I don’t know if I should put a manual jack plate on or modify my transom. My transom is 16″. Thanks

I would say buy the jackplate,it won’t hurt resale like transom modification could. I have one on my rig(200hp),and love it,only a manual unit. A jackplate will help bow lift and speed on most boats(when set properly). I run mine down when on deep or rough water(stability) and high when running shallow water. They don’t add too much weight to your rig either(aluminum).
