Just wondering if anyone out there has ever had their prop freeze up on a terrova? I’ve fished with numerous older power drives and other bow mounts in freezing weather and never had this problem. Now with a brand new boat and bow mount you have to “pull” start the thing if it’s below freezing! Just wondering if I should turn it into warranty or if it’s common on those new motors?

I’ve never heard that before, Shawn. You might want to check with your dealer or contact Minn Kota directly. It shouldn’t do that.
March 24, 2009 at 1:50 am #761804That’s kind of what I thought because I’ve never heard of that problem in any trolling motors. I would like to remedy the problem because I love the motor otherwise.

Yup, they are great motors!
March 24, 2009 at 1:57 am #761808I have had that happen a number of times over the years, while fishing in below freezing weather. The only thing I have found to help with that is to spray de-icer on it after lifting it out of the water so it doesnt freeze. I will add that I did have my prop “freeze” up for good on me this year though. It would only spin about a 1/4 of the way by itself and wouldnt go any farther. Took it back to the Skeeter Boat Center, and they sent it in and had it back to me in 3 days. Never found out exactly what was wrong so they just put a whole new lower unit on it.
Thats my experiences with that issue.March 24, 2009 at 2:20 am #761819Quote:

March 24, 2009 at 2:28 am #761821Thanks Eric I’ll have to try that de-icer. Although hopefully that won’t be much of an issue this year anymore. The weird thing is it did it on thurs and fri and it wasn’t that cold?

It sounds like it is the later problem that I was having. I also know of someone else that was having that same issue as you and they ended up getting a whole new trolling motor. Something to do with the magnets and armatures (sp?) inside of the lower unit. I would call them and see what they will do, or at least call a certified minn kota repair shop and ask what they think is wrong. If it is still under warrenty I would bring it in and have them look at it if you can deal with not having it for a few days.
