Today I went to my local Honda dealer to have my son’s 50cc dirt bike fixed only to be told that they couldn’t fix it because of a law that is in effect becasue of the lead in the bike. The CPSC Consumer Product Safety Commision has put a ban on sales and repairs of children’s ATV’s and dirt bikes. I was told to call my Congressman and ask what they were doing to get this lifted. Call me crazy but I don’t know of any kid that has ate their ATV or motorcycle!!

I’m asking for your help to call your state congressman and ask them what they are doing to try and fix this goofy law. This is just one more freedom that our current government is taking away.

    Thanks for the help!!

It is my understanding that this is a Federal issue.

I’m pretty sure it’s “Big Brother”….The federalis are behind most of the “we’re looking out for your kids” issues.

This is probably the same issue that has many libraries up in arms as they’re restricting access to children’s books publ. before 1986 or something…. STOP THE MADNESS!

I seen this on the one of the Sunday morning shows awhile back. Apparently, they were making it illegal, for Toy manufacturers, to have toys with lead in them. Too many toys are imported from CHINA, where they apparently give their kids lead rattles and pacifiers when they are born and they were shipping toys to the USA with lead parts/paint and other issues, that apparently could cause lead poisoning if ingested. The law was hurried through and being that the smaller ATV’s and dirt bikes are made for kids and contain lead, they fall under the law. They were talking to Klobuchar and she said, how they could not get a exception in the original bill, because they were in such a hurry, but they are working on adding some clauses to clear the situations up. Unfortunately, it is hurting alot of Dealers of these units and ultimately, end use customers also. When is the last time you seen a kid trying to eat his ATV ???

Ya, on the local news last week they had a story about a father/son team that race dirt bikes together and no longer can race together because the son needs parts for his bike and because of the ban on lead and products for kids, the sale of parts and bikes are banned for kids bikes. He was asking for help from viewers to get ahold of the higher up’s and tell them that kids aren’t eating dirt bikes and some things should be exempt from the ban. They are also worried that kids will start using adult size bikes and there will be to many injuries/deaths from using the wrong bike.
