Well this year is almost at a close and its getting to be time to start thinking about what we want to do next year to improve our fishing. Mine is to spend alot more time on the water. In order to do so [put actions into my words] I have purchased a better tow vehicle to replace the previous ones that have caused my time on the water to decrease instead of increase. Also have sleeping capabilitys in the van for nights I don’t want to come home from fishing. Picked up some rods, reels and tons of B-Fish-N Tackle plastics along with some ice fishing items which will all make the new year more enjoyable being on the water or ice. What are you planning on doing to make your 2004 year on the water a more enjoyable one? Thanks, Bill

Dang it Ryan! Don’t forget about that bullhead I caught! lol I do believe Ryan sprays rough fish attractant on the hull when he takes me fishing.
I also want to get to do some fishing with folks from this site.
I want to save up enough pennies to get myself a sonar/GPS combo.
I want to become a better Night Fisherman.
And most of all, I’ve got to find a better way to be able to keep the sun off of my wife while fishing (health reasons). The bimini tops and anchor shades are great, but too much sun comes in over the sides. If anyone has an idea I would LOVE to hear it.
Wade
December 7, 2003 at 7:06 pm #284362A good 45 sun screen along with long sleeve white, light blue or light tan colored shirts/blouses will help keep the sun off the skin and be cooler than dark clothes plus fishing early and later in the day will help too. A hat like Ecnook has [check out his pic] can really help block out some sun on the face too. Thanks, Bill
December 7, 2003 at 11:01 pm #284379Bill, thanks for the suggestions. We are using those ideas already but I really need to do even more. I’m trying to find a bimini top that has sides for more coverage, but I don’t know if they make them for boats as small as mine (Lund Explorer 1675).
Does anyone know of a good sun hat that also has some type of veil to protect the face? That might help too.
I should probably post this question in the proper forum…Thanks,
Wade

just think bill, I may end up in your boat in the eye searchers, and i will be bringing my note book and also my secret video camera to see if all of them long hours on the water pay off for you. he he he, sounds like a good plan, hope all goes well for you, so far, i don’t have any ideas to make my fishing better other than checking this website on a dailey basis, and not to mention, spending time out ont he water with some of the guys that i have met through here.
thanks

December 8, 2003 at 2:27 am #284416Sorry to hear about the loss of the job. Did you find another one yet? If not, what are your skills and does anyone have some info on where he may find a job? Thanks, Bill
December 8, 2003 at 2:30 am #284418Wade, you might have to buy the top and then have someone make some clear tinted side curtains. I would think that someone in the Florida or California or Texas area would make them as hot all year. Maybe need to search the internet. Good luck Bud. Thanks, Bill

I was a computer operator. I worked with carlson companies keeping servers and stuff like that running. No i have not found a job yet, been helping my step father keep his business running. I am helping him by painting for his company, standing outside and painting houses. Hopefully I can find one here real soon, or i will have to become a much better fisherman than i am right now, I may have to catch dinner every day. ha ha ha

That might be the ticket Bill. I was thinking along those lines. Gotta start looking.
Thanks.
December 8, 2003 at 2:29 pm #284454Wade, about the heat, my wife has the same problem. She can’t go outside in the warmer months. Fall through spring is her time of year, she just can’t put up with the heat and now that shes getting older its getting even harder for her to take and even go to the grocery store at 8 in the morning. Shes wringing wet by the time she comes back. We used to live on the gulf coast of texas, when we were younger and the heat indecies were common in the 120 to 130 ranges with the humidity. I seen a few commercial shrimp boats with custom made white tops covering the whole top of the boat. One had a side tarp in white hanging down to keep the intense sun off the deck hands. Colored shade curtains would work but what about no breeze too cool you off with the curtains hanging down. I know the breeze helps with evaporational cooling. A full length white top with about a foot hanging down on the sides with some small mesh white netting on the sides is the best i can think of.
December 8, 2003 at 5:36 pm #284474Dan, Thank you for your thoughts. My wife’s problem is not so much the heat as it is the sun rays. It’s a really tough deal b/c she loves fishing and being outdoors and now the doctor has told her she basically has to keep the sun off of her skin. It’s been pretty troubling to her to say the least. I’m determined to find a reasonable method for her to be able to fish and keep the sun off. I know I’m not going to be able to totally keep the sun off, but I want to do all we can.
I appreciate the comments. Take care, Wade
