Does anyone have a concrete stamped patio or driveway?

We are thinking of this for a patio instead of pavers.

    Thanks

They look great. We have a stamped patio at the cabin and I’ve helped out on putting in another dozen driveways and patios. We have done a few heated sidewalks too, and they look great and are very easy to sweep off and keep dry all winter. We put pavers in at the cabin twice before we made the decision to go with the stamped concrete. The first ones started to break and become uneven and the second time the gophers made tunnels under them. No problems for 5 years with the stamped concrete. Did I mention I’m kind of a fan of stamped concrete.

Its awesome looking. But its probably 3 times more expensive than regular poured concrete. I like it alot too.

My wife and I had our covered porch done with the stamped concrete. Looks great. Fortunately, the guy we had do it was just starting his business and wanted to do the job so he had a product that he could “brag” about. The increase in cost over the straight concrete was minimal in our case, as a result.

We love our stamped patio, I dont think it is three times the cost, all they do is add a color and fiberglass to the crete and a drying agent. You can rent the stamps but I would have a pro do it. It is added cost but should not be that much.

I have done stamped concrete for years. The cost is going to be more if done by a pro, but most of the added cost is labor.
If it were me, I would go stamped over pavers any day. Concrete lasts longer, looks better, and can be done a lot quicker.

I found a site on the internet that says cost is about $6.00 – $8.00 a sq. ft.

    Is this accurate?

Ive got an area 10 1/2 x 27 1/2 Id like to do if the cost is right.

    I had a 12 x 20 slab poured about 5 years ago for $900.00. Just a normal slab though.

We have a lot of them done when a buyer wants it in their building contract. Just make sure you keep it sealed. Our only call backs after a few years has been pops when the seal isn’t maintained. Do your homework on the contractor you use. The so called “extra” 200-400 can easily be the difference of a patio your proud of or one your embarrassesd of

I cant comment on price as I am not up to date with that, but I will say they look and last great. Like Randy said as long as you keep them sealed they will last and look good for a very long time Worth the money imho

I have thought about this too. Is it possible to pour a thin layer on an existing slab and stamp it ? I have a covered 3 season on the front of the house, with just a slab. Is it even possible to do this ? I really like the sidewalk outside of Portside, up by Mille Lacs if anyone has seen that, that is what I would like to do. Any ideas ?

I do both pavers and stamped concrete so no bias opinions. feel free to call me anytime my number is on my web site. check out my website cedarcreeklandscaping.net you can email me through there as well. Pavers if done properly will outlast concrete. I will provide proof of that. Both work well and there is a difference in price between them. mostly it is personal preference in look. if you have seen or had pavers move etc it wasn’t done properly. I am a certified paver installer but also sell alot of concrete.

You can do a pour over existing concrete! I have done it many times. This will give you a higher PSI rating for your concrete as well. This is the link below of the products we use.

I am intrigued Taz… what does a sq. foot of this system typically go for ? I have an area 40 feet wide, about 9 feet deep for 24′ of the frontage feet, and 14′ deep for the remaining 16′. Approximately 440 sq feet. This has a roof over it, but is outside, as it’s surronded by screen and will get a little snow, that blows through the screen. I can sweep it out pretty easily though. Would this product hold up to MN winters ?

I have also done a few concrete overlays on existing concrete.
    Concrete overlays

In the LaCrosse area it runs between $8-12/sq. ft depending on design. If I had to hand tape a design and you wanted more than 1 color, the labor would be on the upper range.
If it was a stock design with 1 basic color, it would be on the lower end.
It is fairly expensive but it really looks nice when done.
Compared to the old option of removing the old concrete and pouring new, it isn’t too bad.
COncrete per yard in the LaCrosse area is $100+/yard not counting color or fiber if you choose that.

Stamped concrete should be done for no other reason than decoration. High traffic and abused areas are tough on it. Prices among contractors vary roughly 0-5 dollars ft^2. I’ve never put a price on a ft^2. Jobs vary so much that its impossible to give a good price based simply on area. There are many other factors. I have a portfolio and stamped concrete at my home. You’re more than welcome to stop by to BS, ask questions, and take a look at the many possibilities. I’m usually able to beat a company by 20%. But these days companies are holding crazy prices just to get by. I’d suggest getting bids from 10 companies. You’ll quickly learn who is worthy just by having a 20 min conversation with them. After you’re discouraged by price, look me up and I may be able to beat them. The downfall to having my crew do work is that the job may be drawn out,….But that is reflected in the price. I guess good things come to those who wait.

    Thanks Matt.

So what time frame do you mean by “drawn out”?

Our last place had stamped concrete, like slate…what a dirt collector that was, real bad by the driveway! It was like the stamping was grouted with loose dirt all the time, when it rained that dirt turned to mud, tracked right in the house. I disliked it…my wife hated it! The pressure washer was a regular fixture. In the winter the stamping held snow which eventually packed down to ice. We liked the look of it, when clean. But, keeping it dirt free and clean was a chore.

We’re pouring concrete this summer for our new walkway and patio. One thing’s for sure, it won’t be stamped! We’re thinking stained instead, still get a nice look without the dirt collecting “grout” lines.
