I made the trip up to Everts on Saturday to pick up my new St. Croix Avid that I won in the Freeze Your Butt guess the weight contest. I knew I wanted a 69 MLXF. I told Dean that I liked Pfleuger reels and that I had my eye on a Supreme series.

Dean said it would be best to wait until I got there to decide on the reel so we could see what balanced the best. His idea was the Pfleuger President, so we tried both. He was right again, the President gave the overall package a better balance and feel. Plus it saved me some money. He then spooled me up with 8lb Crystal Fireline, cut the tags off and I was rigged up and ready to go.

This was our first time fishing the river section of pool 4, and we got a little advice and headed out the door. The first fish on the new rod wasn’t a monster but it was a nice 3-1/2 lb eye. We ended up keeping 5 fish for the pan and having a blast.

We also ended up buying 16 blade baits, a couple packs of jigs, and a bottle of Hot Sauce reel lube per Deans recommendation. He even told us that we didn’t need to bother with Minnows today (that’s the first baitshop employee/owner that’s ever told me I didn’t need bait). The hype is true, and I’m very thankful to get the chance to win such a nice prize and meet such nice people. Thanks again Dean.

Oh yeah, BK was there too, he’s shorter in real life isn’t he.

Yeah, BK is shorter in real life. They only pile crap that high on the internet Dean is the best when it comes to tackle recommendations. I was in there the other day and the same thing happened. The customer was willing to spend more until Dean explained that for balance and what he was going to use it for the less expensive reel would suit him fine. You sure don’t see that much when it comes to salesmen but Dean isn’t really a salesman at all. Just a great fisherman in the right job at the right time—at least it works out that way for all of us.

I wouldn’t say he was “man pretty” like Dean is.

I think that the man pretty stuff has a lot to do with the camera angle.
