I want to invest in a company that makes the batteries or a company that holds the patents for the batteries that youll be seeing in ford/gm/chev. So where do i start? I think its early and can make some money if i go long on it.

    Best regards

I believe they are made in Korea.

I was watching a show on either the history channel or CNBC about the collapse of GM and the Volt will make or break the company. I believe they mentioned that even though GM announced it will go to production in 2010, they still haven’t been able to stabilize the battery power yet.

For what it is worth the company GM is using is LG Chem, which you can find on the Korean Stock Exchange.

I think I remember some company in Canada. The area around the facility is all brown and dead from all of the chemicals that are used to make the batteries. I think it was on National Geographic or Discovery Channel.

The battery technology that Chevy Volt will be using, is a joint venture between GM, Chrysler and Nissan. I did read a article about the area in Canada, that was decimated. I believe that was part of the Prius invention. Evidently, the carbon footprint for their batteries/hybrid car, is like at least 2 times worse on the environment, over 10 years, than driving a Hummer Another good one to look into, is manufacturers of the UHF antennas that will be flying off store shelves, once the Digital swtich over is in full force.

G, I don’t think GM is part of that joint-venture as they selected LG Chem as their supplier. Did you mean Chrysler and GE?

The way I understand it, GM, Chrysler & Nissan engineers are in a joint venture to come up with the technology, for a Elec/Gas Hybrid. The Volt is Chevys version, Chrysler will have one also, along with Nissan. They all will carry the saem power plant. FYI, the World Engine, used in Jeep/Dodge/Mitsubishi/Nissan small cars, is along the same lines.

I thought that Nissan already had a Altima Hybrid that used the same technology as the Toyota Synergy Drive. For some reason though, Nissan decided not to sell their current hybrid in all areas of the US. That doesn’t make sense to me, unless they just can’t make enough to keep up with the demand.

I stand corrected, the Elec Hybrid joint venture is GM, Chrysler & BMW. The joint venture with Nissan & Chrysler, was for Dodge to make the Nissan Titan and Nissan to build the Dodge Hornet. This is on hold, pending the state of the auto industry. They are also working on a version of the Versa, with Chrysler badging, this is moving forward. There is so much talk of mergers, joint venutres, its hard to keep em all straight anymore
