i read a couple articles saying that sportsman’s warehouses is closing 23 of its 67 stores nationwide. i hope that the woodbury store is not one of those to be closed… i really enjoy shopping there, especially in their fishing and gun departments.

heres the links to what i found:

Sadly, it is true. The 3 Minnesota stores are planned to be closed within 60 days.

Although this starts the end to the most customer friendly big box sporting goods stores we’ve seen in MN, I feel the employees will be taking their experience with them to what ever they find for their next career.

A truly great bunch of people and I’ll be supporting them there.

That sucks. Although I didn’t have one located too conveniently for me, I enjoyed their stores!

That’s some bad news. I hope the woodbury store stays open, that’s one of the best stores around for anything outdoors.

    No No No No!!

The woodbury store was a one stop shop for me. The best customer service and products from bow hunting to fishing….

    A sad day for sure.

It is sadly true, all of the midwest stores will be closing. It has been a great experience, there are many, many great friends that I have come to know over the years. Working in this enviroment has been awsome, helping people enjoy their sports, their passions. It has truely been the best job a guy could ask for… playing with fishing and hunting stuff all day… I will truely miss this. The plus side, there should be some good deals, and we will have some time to say good bye to the customers that we have become good friends with. This is certainly not good bye for me on here, I will still share, and help out when I can.
It has been a good run! Thank you!

    Sorry to hear this Ryno.

Don’t worry Deluxe. Gander isn’t far behind in closing it’s doors either.

It is too bad I have found the pricing for fishing gear to be considerably cheeper then Gander mountain. I do not see why they couldn’t make it and gander can?

Wait! That means I will have to visit my family more and be stuck with only cabelas!

So much for working today. time to start compiling a list of must haves.

I didn’t know there was still a Gander Mountain in Woodbury..

What a bummer. We can only hope the SW employees get scooped up by Gander and it improves there customer service and their able to keep the things your looking for in stock.

Finally a good store then this? They just had their first ice fishing contest. Looks like last. This is terrible news. Why couldnt it have been the other store in Woodbury!!! Must be senseless corporate greed because the individual store in Woodbury surely holds its own although I always wondered why they built right next door to a competitor.

Ditto – I love the store in Coon Rapids and even the one in St Cloud. Huge bummer – was just in there yesterday to check on the new stuff arriving!

i still prefer gander and cabelas for clothing, and no store can touch the return policy at cabelas. that is the reason why almost every large purchase i make, it is at cabelas. and as far as sportsmans, their archery dept was terrible and small, but they had good selection of ammo and dog stuff.

well….at least we’ll be getting some closeout prices soon…

oh, and the customer service sucks at all the stores for the most part. once in a while you’ll find somebody who actually knows the product and is happy to help you, but i’ve come accustomed to this, as what can you expect when their employee base is high school/college kids making 8 bucks an hour. its a job to them is all… thats why i care more about pricing and availability of products, not so much what the employees know. i do all of my own research on sites like these before i buy something new most of the time anyways, so i already know what i want when i walk in the door.

Obivously you do not know any of my employees…. They took alot of pride in knowing the product and servicing the customer… If you think that everyone in sporting goods is a dumb [censored] making 8 bucks an hour, you can KISS MY
Alot of us, at least at my store, do this because we love what we do, we take pride in our work. We come from alot of different back grounds and could easily go work else where for more money. Just like everyone else out there you have a choice to be good at what you are doing. Yes I am defending my guys and can proudly say my guys in the fishing department are the best you will ever find in any “big box”…. ok done venting…..

Yes this means there will be some good “sales”, I will keep you posted when we know more about the liquidation process.

i didn’t say everybody at every store was like that. i said most. so maybe your dept was an anomaly in that your employees knew what they were talking about and enjoyed their job. but, you cannot argue the fact that 90% of the employees at big box sporting goods stores do not know the product they sell, and could care less about helping you.

thats why i take the responsibility onto myself to research a product before i buy it. because honestly, i’m to the point now where i don’t trust a single thing i’m told by anyone at gander, cabelas, joes, etc.

now, there are a few people i’ve built relationships with. there are two guys at gander in woodbury that i trust their archery advice and would let them work on my bow any day. the rest of that dept, i wouldn’t even let them cut arrows for me…cause they’d screw that up.

I recently went on a bass fishing trip to Mexico. needed to pick up a couple of last minute lures and such. one of the guy’s at SW had been to Mexico several times. this was my second trip. he was very helpful and knowledgable. I even bought a couple of things that weren’t on my list and that included a lipless crank that I killed ’em on. my experiences have been very good. I like Cabela’s also but don’t like the drive to St Cloud. SW was my favorite spot for stuff I don’t order on line. they carry on ton of bass plastic that you can’t find at Gander or Dick’s. that I will miss. just my .02

Since this post was about Sportsmans Warehouse, I came to the same conclusion Ryan did.

The two twin cities Sportsmans are diamonds in the rough.

don’t read into stuff so much next time. i meant what i said and that was all. nothing more…nothing less.

and by no means was it meant to be a rip on Ryan, him and his dept were obviously the 10% that knew what they were doing and take pride in their job.
