what is the best and cheapest boat insurance out there. How many policies cover the boat and tackle? I have progressive now and was thinking I should check around. I just got my renewal and the policy is $250 for the year

Well, my policy ranges from 600-700…but I carry professional liability and tournament coverage as well.

Please remember to accurately reflect the values of your boat, motor, trailer and accessories on your insurance policy. Most of the damage is usually done to the outboard (lower unit damage, etc.) so you want to be sure the policy coverage is correctly spread over your separate units.
We have seen people come in with only $800 in coverage on a motor that is worth $2000. Then they are not able to afford a lower unit repair/replacement. Check if you are getting replacement cost, depreciated cost, etc. with your policy coverage. If something does go wrong – you want to be covered.

If your not fishing tourny’s or guiding, you might want to check out the folks that have your car insurance. Normally there is a discount.

That doesnt sound bad but there are a lot of variables. You,your age, driving record, age and value of boat, multiple policies and one of the newer ones is your credit rating are some of the things insurance companies rate you on.I always check a few of the major companies to compare rates.Your policy might cover some equiptment to a certain dollar amount then you have to pay extra for more.Cheaper doesnt always mean better insurance.Ive heard of some horror stories from guys that went with cheaper insurance from some not well known insurance companies and got screwed when they had a claim.

I find that your best deal is often going to come when you package all of your insurance with one carrier. Be sure to check into the details as well when it comes to additional coverages. Some insurance carriers only offer a “bare bones” policy which only cover your personal items up to $1,000, not to exceed $500 for one item.

If you are planning on fishing tournaments, guiding,or looking for custom coverage, I would consider looking into a company that specializes in marine insurance. My agency will be offering the Angler’s Advantage line staring in the next few weeks, and am a strong believer in their products.
