An AR -15 for protection and then people wonder why they are trying to ban assault rifles especially for a guy that has never had a gun and sounds like he doesnt even have a clue about what he is getting into! I’m all for gun rights but cmon get a handgun for protection and leave the high powered sniper rifle for the people who have a use for it like hunters and the military. As for a pistol for protection from a bear kinda like taking a knife to a gun fight but thats just my 2 pennies worth!

    AMEN!!!!!

This couldn’t be a “troll” could it?? And I don’t mean the first definition.

    TROLL-troll (plural trolls)

    1. An instance of trolling, especially, in fishing, the trailing of a baited line.

    2. (Internet) A person who posts to a newsgroup, bulletin board, etc., in a way intended to anger other posters and to cause drama, or otherwise disrupt the group’s intended purpose.

I believe the Constitution protects his right as a non-felon to own ANY legal firearm, as long as necessary permits to purchase have been attained. As long as it is used within the guidelines of the law, don’t discriminate, a gun is a gun, is a gun.

Besides a .223 AR-15 is pin pusher, now a 50 Cal. BMG… That is a high power sniper rifle.

I totally agree johnny walleye what the hell goes through some peoples heads, protection?? And if a bear attacks you, you probably deserve it!! Having a computer to write posts on but can’t get the answers to those question, thats somebody I don’t agree with having or getting a gun!

For personal protection in the home, can’t ever go wrong with a 12 guage.

Kinda agree on the AR-15 for protection. That bullet will easily exit the intended victim, go through 3 walls, another un-intended victim, 2 more walls and maybe a couple car windows before coming to rest. Just a little over kill in my opinion.

But as mentioned, he can buy or own any gun he wants. Unless of course he lives in a place like Chicago or New York… but we won’t go there!

Wow, lets offer some advice instead of ripping on someone for asking a question. I thought that was the whole reason for this site was to ask questions. My pearl feel free to IM me any gun related questions you have and I will do my best to help you out. If you are looking for a handgun for Bear (which is his legal right) you will want to go with something in a revolver probably a 357 or larger. I could have swore I read that in some states you need a backup gun if you are bear hunting (alaska maybe but don’t quote me on this one) so there should be alot of help on this. On the ar 15, there are literally hundreds of guns out there for in all shapes and sizes from long range prairie dog machines to close range collabible stock self defense weapons. In alot of areas this may not make the most sense as a self defense gun but where I live with no neighbors around to worry about hitting with a stray round it would be something to consider (although the 12 gauge recommendation is probably a better choice but that is your choice). I welcome you over to a card carrying member of the second amendment and enjoy, shooting is a great past time, if you are first getting into all thise I would recommend getting someone to walk you through the guns because just like alot of things they are very dangerous if used improperly.

a lot of haters in here, jeeesh. I’m not mad tho. If all hell breaks loose because of some dump 2012 sernerio breaks out or money becomes worthless. Yes I’ll go get my ar15 to protect my [censored] from someone pushing/knockin my door down to get whatever is inside. As for bears I don’t want one to eat my [censored]. Some people don’t like spiders, don’t mean you have to squish them. But if the bear is 6 inches from my head yeah i might pull the trigger the same as you’d smash a spider it was on you and you hate spiders. as for trying to get ppl worked up. this wasn’t meant for that.

you have yet to make one coherent sentence, nor have you stated where you are from. Yet you come on here and ask these illegible, and confusing questions on firearms laws, and expect us to answer them without confusing you with a troll, spreading your spam on our fine site?

so, lets start over, where do you live, or are you planning on moving here soon. Also, why such the concern with bears? we do not really have a huge occurence of bear attacks in this state.

Wow! You guys are mean today! I have a .223 that I think would be the ultimate home defense weapon. A laser sight, 120 lumen thumb activated spotlight attached and operated in the front grip. I know you can do the same with a pistol…but there is just something about a semi-auto with a 30 round magazine that gives one that sense of security!
    Lol!

An AR can be used for home protection. IS is recomended? NO. NO! It is not a “sniper rife” and NO is definately won’t go through three walls. A big maybe if your shooting tactical Bonded core with the barrel right against the wall. Now an AR-50 That will go through a house.

AS for advice on permits to purchase a pistol or and AR-15 in Minnesota you need to go to the local Police Department and fill out a Permitt to Purchase and then if approved you can buy your AR-15 or pistol.

This is all i was going after. for the guy suggesting im spreading spam on this fine site. you can go outside and play hide and go f yourself! this is a nice site and its why i thoguht id ask. I live in MN and fish in Ignace Canada where bears are/could be a problem. Wishing not to loose a limb. Trust me id be running before id be thinking about shooting. I didn’t get off the short bus 15 minutes ago.

And yes I dont think I’ll have a problem getting a permit. I thought you had to do classes in order to get a permit. But thats for a concealed weapon. maybe next time i rephrase my question and maybe next time you wont be a prick! thanks for those who took me seriously.

If I had a Class III I would make this my home defense gun.

    AA – 12

this is getting silly but i believe canada won’t let a hand gun in for any reason they have no use for such guns 12GA with slugs is a great stopper or smaller shot for all else oobuck to 9s
