Just purchased this unit and in reading the install directions for the unit power and gps power it recommends a power switch for both. I guess my question is what good is the on/off switch on the unit itself if both power cords have a switch put on them? Is there something I’m missing?

Well most likely you have the same instructions for a LMS 520c as well as the 522IGPS, so with that being said, some folks do put in a seperate power source for the puck on the 520. Obviously the 522 doesn’t have a puck so its fine to run just one power source to the head unit.

you only need one power hook up. Its fairly easy to hook up. good luck, dan

Even with the unit turned off it is still drawing voltage from the battery. That is the reason you need to be able to cut the power to it or you might go to use your boat and have a dead battery.
