My wife suprised me and reserved a houseboat for a family fishing vacation (she wants to go this time). Problem being she wants to go to Birch Lake in St. Louis Co.. I don’t know anyone who has fished there and I cant find either paper or computer generated maps or info of any kind for this body of water….Is this a decent walleye/muskie lake? Any help would be appreciated….

Here is info from the DNR’s website

    Lake Map

    Lake Survey

Doesn’t look like any muskies in the lake, and the other gamefish don’t look too promising. Maybe look into going down the road to Vermillion, or if you want to add another hour of driving, hit Namakan/Kabetogama. I have several friends that have been to both lakes on houseboats, and I’m sure this summer there will be some good deals on rentals.

From what I’ve heard there are some HUGE northerns in there and the smallies and crappies can be really good too. Haven’t heard much about the walleye fishing. You may want to post something in the Lake Vermillion forum, I know Birch isn’t to far from there and it is in St.Louis county.

Thanks for the quick response and info..I don’t want to ruffle the Mrs’s feathers by going somewhere else. I tryed the “we’ll why don’t we just do a fly in” and about got my head ripped off. I’m gonna hit Birch Lake hard. I cant find any paper maps besides DNR’s. I’m just gonna have to work at findin em…….
