deer stand windows

I built two 4’x6′ enclosed stands a couple of years ago. I made the windows out of plexie glass. They are removeable but are not very weather tight. The stand works great for gun season but found out I can’t pull my bow back the 4′ way. Going to build two more this year that are 6×6 and wondering what the best windows are to put in. I can get some casement windows from a remodel job we’re doing but they would swing out. If I turn them around then the interior part is exposed to the weather. Anyone have any idea’s?

You may consider some sliding replacement windows. They wont have the brickmold or nailing flang on the outside or the extension jamb on the inside. All you would have to do is wrap your opening with something weather proof such as alluminum or whatever you have for siding on it, and then set the window in it and screw it to the insides of the opening. I would think sliders would be better than crankouts for ease of opening. You should be able to pick some cheaper ones up at your local building store or Menards that are odd sizes or returns for the wrong size. They may not all exactly match but would be cheaper than buying all new ones.
Getting the replacements should also be cheaper since they wont have the extension jambs on them and such.

    Something to think about

Try looking at some basement replacements. They open inward and if set on end they would give a good area for drawing your bow. I think some can swing all the way open or have the pane completely removed??? They sell for less than casements or awnings. No experience here but I have the same problem and been thinking about this as an option myself, just haven’t checked into it yet.

Just man up and use a normal tree stand for bow hunting.

No windows on those to deal with. I don’t care how good of a window you use or how well you lubricate it, you start opening that window when you have a big buck at 30 yards and he most likely will be gone. Not worth the risk for me.

    Awning or slide-by’s
Check with all your local lumber yards that deal in windows. Often they will get windows that are ordered incorrectly and you can pick them up for a very reasonable $$$.
