Santa brought me a nice Lowrance XOG for x-mas, I need to know what maps to buy. I do most of my fishing in IA, but I make it up to Mn or Wi a few time a year, is it worth the additional money for the lakemaster chips for each state or would I be ok with the fishing hotspots pro chips for the region? Any info about the mapcreate software would be appreciated as well. I take trips out west occasionally where topo maps are crucial and the blm maps from the Lowrance home page would cost an arm and a leg to cover that amount of area.

xog is a great unit i also have one i live im minnesota and i use mine mostly for lake travel. I have the navionics north chip works great just have to change to the region u are in and thats it. i believe the north chip has iowa and wisconsin all of minnesota some michigan, and north and south dakota lakes on it. dont quote me on that check out there website to be sure.

With the navinics north you get more littler lakes whereas the lakemaster mn chip you get less lakes but a better quality maps. What I suggest is going online and finding the list of lakes that each chip has and finding witch chip is more tailored for your lake preferences, we all have our favorite lakes so get the chip that covers the most of your favorite waters.
