I buy about 90% of my gear online and research all major purchases online before making them. There’s online stores I would avoid but there really isn’t any product I would avoid buying online.
I buy NOTHING online. I’m old fashion and like to touch the stuff I’m paying for. I also like to talk to the people getting my money.
I also wouldn’t feel good if my local tackle shop / bait shop went out of business and my last purchases were online. Somethings just aren’t worth saving a couple of bucks over.
Like I said, I’m old fashion but I ain’t changin’ my ways.
If it doesn’t come directly through one of my sponsors, first place I go is online
I do a lot of research on line including this site before I buy. However I too like to do business with the lowest price in my neighborhood so that I have a face to talk to when I buy and one when I am not satisfied with my purchase. I have made two purchases on EBay and both were less than satisfactory. Buyer beward are still watch words that I had to relearn.
I purchase 90% of all my tackle and gear on-line.
Why drive around just to find out some store doesn’t have your item or their out of stock….
That includes hunting items for me also.
My next pet-pieve(however you spell that) is when I go to a store and the person helping me knows less than I do about the product. And yes that includes Cabelas and Scheels.
Exactly what jmatura said!!!! I’d have to bet 8 out of 10 times I go to Gander or Cabelas they don’thave what I am looking for.

I like to know who I’m doing business with as well. The majority of my purchases come thru small(er) internet outlets (Wade & Jolly Ann is a great example) and I’ve built a relationship with the owner.
There is stuff I DON’T buy online. Livebait. Last minute purchases when I go on a trip. Everts gets a ton of my money during the course of the season.
The gal and I are even buying groceries online now. You want to talk about CON-VEN-IENT! The price is the same. We never forget anything as we can monitor the list while we’re ordering AND save lists from one week to the next which is great because we go through the same basic ‘stuff’ week after week. And the $5 delivery charge is a bargain in my opinion. I’ve got better things to do than stand in a line and listen to “paper or plastic” a half dozen times as I work my way through.
Info on grocery shopping please. This will save us a couple hours a week!!

Give it a whirl. They might even still be offering a a $20 coupon for new online accounts that basically lets you try it for 4 deliveries for free.
I also find our sponsors to be great sources; Dean(Everts) a great guy to do business with for most of my reel/tackle needs… I buy my Electronics from Wade (Jolly Ann)…Guide clothes from Gamehide, and some jigs/plastics from BFT. I do buy online from Cabelas also.
There isn’t any big store I know of that can match Dean’s ability to get several brands of Hi Vis mono and Braided line…No one…

Ditto that! Tom, you took the words right out of my mouth.
Thanks everyone for the great responses. I work for a company that is thinking about branching into the world of e commerce. Your input is greatly appreciated. I’ve been researching this for them and it helps to understand what serious anglers are looking for online.

What it seems like to me is they ……….
A) Know exactly what they want to buy. Brand and size ect.
B) Shopping price.
So IMHO unless you offer every brand at bottom prices they will move on. Then of course there is the subject of customer service.
You better be ramped up to do huge volume and have plenty of reps to answer questions promptly.
I buy online unless I need or want what I’m buying immediately
Lots of online research for me. Small items less than $200 get bought online or on the go. Everything else I usually need to touch unless I’m replacing something that is broken. (and I can find the EXACT same thing online). Clothing and footwear however, is always bought in a store. I’d love a BPS rain suit but I’m not driving hundreds of miles to try it on and I’m not dropping that kind of money without trying it on first.
I also buy limited items on – line I would not buy clothing or a jigging rod on – line. Every rod, no matter if they are the same model feel slightly different from one another so therefore I want to personally hand test them or as in Dean’s case (FIELD TEST) them before buying…”Hairjig”
i buy almost everything tackle-wise online.
i know what works for me and make restock orders for the same stuff – usually bft, everts and cjs.
things like clothes, footwear, rods and reels, i need a look see.
