Anyone know if there’s a Aux./mp3 input on the back of my 05 silverado stereo. I know there’s not one wired to the console, but if there’s the plug in the back of the stereo I’ll pull it and wire a plug. Any way to do this to this stereo? I’d rather not buy a aftermarket stereo.

i think theres a set of RCAs back there. do you have a slave tape or cd player? i dont remember if 05s do that like the old GMs do…

as long as you dont mind a little white noise, you should be ok. my buddy ran a rca-headphone jack to his ipod and it worked fine. the audio just seemed really scratchy to me.

i just upgraded to a new deck a few weeks ago. i made sure i had an usb connection for my ipod. its nice because i can control the ipod from my deck, its hidden in my glove box, and it charges up on my drive to and from work..

if you can, try and buy the cables online, that will save you a ton of money… the markup on any sort of cable from bestbuy or ultimate electronics or radio shack is insane!!!

Yes, AUX/CD. I want to be able to plug in mp3, but it doesn’t have
A exterior “port”. If I can wire one in, great. It’s a 05 silverado
6 disc BOSE. I know lots of stereos have a AUX port on the back,
    That would make it easy.

BIRDDOG ..I believe that option was NOT started until,2007

I used to have a stereo repair shop wire mine up in the past.

Thanks for the info…Now, how hard to get at the back of the stereo? I’m sure I have to pull lots of trim, beyond that is there just a couple screws holding the stereo in and it’ll pull out?? I hate to tackle the project to find out half way through there’s more involved. I’ve replaced/removed a few car stereos in the past, but different, older vehicles. Should this be any/much different??

You usually need some special tools, IIRC most Gm have 4 little holes in the front plate, that’s where the tool goes in, I think you can get them at walmart usually. Under $10

Yes he is going to need an adapter like the one Nick posted or the one I posted earlier.

No tape-deck I’d assume?… How about going wireless with an FM modulator?

I’ve tried a few of those in the boat(not in the truck), the sound wasn’t the greatest, tolerable but not crisp and clear. Maybe the fact the stereo and 12V plug are on opposite sides of the boat…how much difference does distance make on those? Maybe it would be better in the truck since the 12V plug is right next to the stereo?

    Birddog, you could check http://www.fullsizechevy.com

In their forums, there is an Audio section. Might be worth a look. They helped me with a few issues with my Tahoe.

this is the method for fords. at least it was in the 90s.

chevy is much simpler. first, adjust the steering wheel as low as it goes. then put the ebrake on, you will need to put the car in the lowest gear to get teh shifter out of the way. then just pull the molding off. it should just be held in place by a few metal clips. be careful not to pull too far out becuase you need to unplug the buttons (4×4, cargo lights, airbag switch, etc.) i used a flat head screwdriver to wiggle those plugs free.

then when you have that off or at least down far enough to get to the deck, you just stick your finger in on each side. about half way up you will see 2 black plastic clips. just press these down and the whole deck will slide out.

this should take you about 10-20 mins the first time you do this. after that, no more than 3 minutes and you will have the deck in your hand…

if you need that adapter nick displayed, i think you would be better off spending money on a new deck. and you will get clearer sound with a usb connection. if you check out http://www.sonicelectronix.com, you can get a kenwood (thats just the brand i prefer these days) deck with usb for around $150ish. and the best part is that they give you the wiring harness and mounting kit for free. the only thing you have to get extra is an antenna adapter (around $10).

If you are planning to play music from your Storm, good luck. I have to turn up the volume to over 80% on the truck and 100% on the Storm just to have it audible. Verified my cables etc. were not the issue with another device. Nope, it’s the Storm.

I have an aux input on my Rav4 and through my touch pro I bet I’m a good 60-70% on volume to get a normal sound level. I’ve wondered if radio has bluetooth if that would be the way to go, my radio doesn’t

The biggest issue for sound quality seems to be if I charge the phone in the car, I get noise feedback through the stereo, and can hear an audible whine through the radio, unless I run it off battery.

We don’t have any problems with my wife’s Itouch, but the BB’s just weren’t made to be MP3 players.

FM modulators have come a long way…. I have one that works/sounds really well, others not so good. Of course a hard-wired solution is going to produce the best over-all sound quality.

Big hunter…thanks for that info. Makes sense and sounds like a easy job.

    Thanks for the info ALL!

    Kooty,

I’ve been spending alot of time on crackberry.com the last few days, great site btw, there are a many threads there talking about using the storm in the car, using all the options we’ve talked about here. Hard wired sounds like the best option, clearest, no static, etc. I havn’t come across any thread or reply that states the trouble you’ve had(Using it in the car)…they say it sounds good.

Still getting used to the keyboard, I’m not bad on it actually. I like the phone so far. Learned ALOT of shortcuts on crackberry that make the keyboard much more user friendly. Here is the thread…all tips and tricks. Lots of pages, still sifting through the good stuff. Very helpful, it’s sped up my typing, making corrections in spelling, etc…no need to try and click the correct spot on the screen, that’s dang near impossible, I hear ya there! Hold your finger on the screen, the cursor will change from blue to white, then you can move the cursor anywhere by swiping your finger around, it’s the most helpful tip I’ve found for typing.

    Tips and tricks

As far as tethered connection speed, it’s faster than the old connection…and cheaper.

This change has been good for us. So far so good…still learning though!

As soon as I posted I realize…the boat has a mp3 jack! So I went out and tested it, worked perfect, sounds as good as any of the ipods or m3 players I’ve had hooked up to it in the past. No messing with the volume, etc. It was fine. One thing that was cool, while I was Jam’N to “Addicted”…the music slowly muted out and the phone rang, the wife wondering…”what are you doing in the garage” , could here her clear on the boat speakers and she could here me great through the speaker phone and I wasn’t even close to the mic. Hands free. There has to be something wrong with your stereo wiring or phone.
