I have a 2005 F-150 and recently the wipers would go on but move back and forth very slowly, about 1/2 the speed they normally would have.

I had an oil change done yesterday and they caught this but now they only go about 1/2 way up the window and then stop as if they are stuck.

They want $100 just to diagnose at dealer. Anything I can check before I spend $100 minimum?

Chances are the wiper motor is going bad, I had the same thing happen to an older gmc. Basically to get a little more life out of it, try tapping on the wiper motor with a wrench while the wipers are on to see if you can get it goin again at least temporarily. Basically works the same way when banging on an old starter to get it to turn over. Might not work, but its worth a shot at least!

    Can you lower your seat?

    Cougar,
If you were my height, you wouldn’t have a problem either.

Test the voltage at the motor when running shouold be around 12 volts dc. If you have 12v then take that $100 and buy a new or rebuild wiper motor. Just looked new motor around $50

If it’s like some of the older Fords, you’ll have to take the hood off to replace the motor. If you do, make sure you mark where the hood bolts are or make sure you can see the spot in the paint.

Not to knock you, but why would you need to remove the hood? The cowl, maybe. Usually just held in by a few bolts, and most wiper linkages have enough free play in them to pull the motor out to take the nut off the wiper driveshaft.
