Very sad news. Kens perspectives always have been a positive influence here through the good times, and the bad. I’ll pray for strength and healing for him and his family.

Prayers sent to Ken’s family. Ken freely gave advice on my questions about taking pics, cameras etc.. Although I never had the pleasure of meeting him I still felt we were freinds.

I remember one of (maybe the 1st) FTR get together at Everetts. Fishing was cut short by a nasty thunderstorm where Jon, Dino and I raced 50 mph in sideways rain and 3′ waves from Pepin the resort (good job driving Jon!).

After some cold ones, I sat down next to Rivereyes and introduced myself. I think we talked and laughed for 2 hours straight. When I got up, someone said, “I should have warned you, once you start w/ Ken, you are in for the long haul.” That person was right about him talking your ear off, he couldnt have been more wrong about calling it a warning. I still smile when I think of that day.

Dave…you got that right! Ken had the gift of gab!

After I had my cancer surgery, I spent days straight down at Evert’s recovering on the River. One pretty foggy morning I had the River to myself, and was dragging jigs up towards the dam. I notice this figure in a boat coming towards me through the mist….It was Ken. He was trying to figure out his new Minnkota Autopilot. When he figured out it was me, he mosied on over yacking all the way….and bumped into my boat because he could not figure out how to turn the @#$% thing off! We laughed…

So I get home to see a post from Ken…”So I ran into Tuck on the River today…” We got some mileage out of that one…”Hope to run into you again soon!”, “Maybe I’ll bump into you next week…” etc…

Not good. I hope your family is doing ok considering the circumstances. I have one of Ken’s photos hanging on my wall at this moment. It helps me relax during the winter and remember the summer. Many thanks to Ken for that!

It’s hard to believe that we are talking about Kenn – one of our brothers here on IDO. He’s such a great contributor to this site adding his educated point of view. He expresses his passion for life through a wildlife photo and no words could even describe his talent when it comes to photography. Every time he would post and I would see his deceased daughter on his avatar, I would pause for a moment and think about how hard it must have been for him and his family to go through that traumatic event. Now the family is experiencing this once again. I send my prayers to Kenn and his family for a miracle. And if that does not happen and if our IDO brother ends up leaving us, I will envision Ken reuniting with his daughter once again.

I’m not good at these kinda things in person, let alone the internet, I never really know what to say.

Ken took some truly great photographs (they were part of what inspired me to buy a new DSLR camera and get serious about it myself), I enjoyed playing in the IDO fantasy football league with him, and I always appreciated his posts. I’ll miss him.

My condolences to his family, I can’t imagine what you’re going through.

    Dave B & Chris Tuckner…
I had to laugh when I read your post and thought back to when Kenny first took my brother, cousin, and I down there fishing on the Miss, we launched at Everet’s resort. It was Kenny and my bro in Kenny’s boat and they took off from the dock and kenny’s boat didn’t run so good as he was playing with the throttle or something and…. smash right into somebody’s boat and Ken just kept on going like nothin happened…my cousin and I in the meantime just watched in awe and laughed our butts off while the guys in the other boat were like wtf?…It got to be around noon or so and we were gettting a little thirsty so we motored over to some bar and my brother says to me “I think my ears are bleeding, Kenny doesn’t stop talking!”…lol

So I know where you guys are coming from when you tell your stories Dave and Chris.

I’m Gonna miss the bumper boats at the dam(Ken playing with his remote) and laughing when he snags somebody’s anchor rope and then telling the guy it’s not his jig.

Oh well it’s nice to laugh for once in a time like this.

    Thanks..

Ken and I talked often about politics, personal problems with our kids doing drugs, ya mine too, photography as Im an amerature photographer but with 35mm film and whatever we wanted to talk about. The last I talked to him a couple weeks ago I was supposed to let him know how things would come out with building a wind powered generator and solar panels for my house here. I told him I would work out all the bugs and let him know how things were going because he was interisted in eventually living off the grid too. This is one heck of a sad day for me and everyone else. Although I haven’t met Ken face to face I was counting on it and its now a big disapointment that im not going to be able to and talk to him. Theres just not enough words right now as everybody will miss him.

Never met Ken other than reading his posts or looking at his pictures. You could tell looking at his pictures that he had a very profound closeness to nature and every sunrise or sunset had a special meaning to him. Let us think of him when we observe a beautiful sunrise or sunset. God Speed

going through this thread brought a tear to my eye, I enjoyed what Ken brought to a discussion and I really looked foreward to his posts with pictures. I hope the family can find comfort know how he touched others. I’m sure I speak for others here, Let us know if there is anything at all we here at IDO can do, and don’t be afraid to ask. Peace in your hearts.

I am also sorry to hear how things have changed with Ken.

His pictures were always great and were a way to escape to a peaceful place. I always looked forward to his masterpieces.

Ken’s postings were always level headed and never slammed anybody else’s views.

    He will definitely be missed.

Like many of you, I too have not met Ken in person, but his insights into life and his ability as a photographer has always amazed me. But what amazes me even more is this “brotherhood” of outdoorsmen and women that care for each other, even though few of us know each other personally
other than a screen name or an avatar. What a great bunch of people!! Ken, no matter the outcome, know that your friends here appreciate your abilities to inspire us, calm us, and awe us. Godspeed OUR friend.

    Tuck:

If I seem to remember correctly, wasn’t Ken a wildlife biologist in IA before he moved up north??? It seems like that those were the two things that drew me to him in the .’02/.’03 days. I had spent some time studying bio and did that in Ia. At any rate, he and stillakid really did have some interesting conversations.

Godspeed to him, his daughter and the rest of his earthly family!!!

I remember one of the early Big brother /Big Sister events when Ken and Stillakid were down helping everyone as they came in. The only problem was they were in such deep conversations solving the worlds problems you had to bump the dock to get their attention. I only talked to Ken a few times but it was like you knew him forever—he was just the friendliest guy on the planet. I sure pray he pulls through by some miracle but if God needs one heck of a photographer then we are all screwed cause he was one of the best!
