So last Thursday, Jan 22 I left MN at 3:45am drove down to the metropolis of Buffalo Springs TX. 947 miles and 13.5 hours later and was able to pick up my American Bulldog pup Roman!
He is out of Sire Johnson’s Reynold’s Dozer, about 150lbs. and Dam Dolly Blakeney about 120lbs.
He has been great and in the pics he is 8 weeks and 19lbs. He is not thrilled going from 80 degrees in TX to -4 in MN but all the warm love he gets from his new family will help.
I would like to thank Surreal’s Marcus Blakeney and Robert for their help. Anyhow I am excited to see how he turns out and if he is anywhere close to some of this other siblings (Indian Branch’s Superman for one) I will be more than satisfied!

    Here are a few pics

What is your attraction to that breed? What traits are they known for?

Looks like a great buddy you have there. Did you take a rod with you to fish while you were there?

Congratulations!! He looks like a winner.
My sister had almost the same look to her female bulldog. She was almost a dalmation with all those spots.

Awesome looking dog. Do you have plans for him, or is he just a family dog?

Spend lots of time training him and take lots of pictures–they grow fast. We picked up our pup on June 14th at 11 weeks. He was 38 pounds. He turned 10 months today and he’s about 140 now

If I had my choice of a pooch, an American bulldog would be the first, those dogs are just awesome!

They’re a bull breed. They’re similar to a pit bull terrier but not as dog aggresive. Usually much bigger too.

they are stubborn, athletic and strong, playful, loving, humorous, family and people orientated, loyal loyal and loyal.

Like all dogs (especially bull breeds) they require the right type of person

    Thanks Chamberschamp,
    That covers most of it.
I guess I was looking for a larger breed dog. I have owned a Rotti and Dane in the past both great dogs. The Rotti was highly intelligent!
I like the dog to be different from the normal, I really liked the look..(that’s just my taste).
I was looking for a family member and I knew going in that you need to socialize them so he has been with me at work and out and about as much as possible. The last think any large breed owner wants is a aggressive 130lb dog.
They will all be protective, but to me there is a definite line.
Again my Rotti, Thor, was perfect, if you were on the outside of my fence he sounded like he may just tear your arm off. The moment you came through the fence with us he would roll over and want you to scratch his belly.
I hope for the same with Roman.

I think my Dane would sleep through a home invasion He’s big enough to make anyone think twice, though!

Sounds like you’re doing things right! Great to see responsible dog owners. There are too many people who get dogs and fail to realize the work that goes into making a great dog. Lots of folks comment on how well behaved our dog is. Well, he sure wasn’t born that way!

Please keep sharing photos! I love big dogs!

Makes sense. I have only met a couple in my life and they were both very friendly.

The couple I’ve met were overweight slobber hounds. Had lots of bark, but no bite. Neighbors have one with a Rot pup(are they ever really small? ). Can’t say I like they don’t have a fence or leashes ever on the dogs, but I would feel the same if they were labs.

    Here’s a few of my puppy…

He’s mixed breed, half pit bull terrier and half dope.

He’s like a part of the family.

He turned one in November. Tons of boat time last summer and fall. Did pretty good for a pup. He goes nuts when I hook up the boat. Don’t jump in while on the water fishing, so its all good. He has this wierd argument with channel cans, feels a need to bark at them!

Will get in any photo if possible.

Oh, and dog tags and boat cleats don’t mix!

He’s a darn good looking pup. I’m not a fan, but love the looks of rots. I also know I’m unfairly biased against certain breeds. Can’t wait to meet him! Even a stupid redneck like me can’t resist a slobbery snout.

How could you not love a mug like this?

He’s not allowed on furniture. Apparently, he doesn’t think he’s on the couch if his paws are still on the ground

At 100lbs, I am not sure he qualifies as big compared to some of these other dogs. He also is not a drooler like the others. But he is big and dumb…

Here he as a little puppy, trying to get his ears to go up, getting his handed to him, making himself comfortable while on vacation (I don’t believe dogs should be on the furniture…let’s just say I lost that battle), and hanging out in the boat.

Ryan, I love your dog. I grew up with a Great Dane. Awesome dogs. I don’t think I could afford to feed him or to buy all the bags needed to pick up his business.

yes, you’re nuts. I wonder how many FREE dogs to good owners you drove by on your little trek south?

But then again, what can I say, I’m more of a CAT person

Yeah, he’s chowing down 14 cups of Pro Plan a day right now, and there’s not any fat on his body. They’re definitely not cheap dogs, but my wife has wanted one forever, and I’ve fallen in love with the breed now, too!
