There’s a feral cat(s)that’s been hanging around my property. The one I see from time to time is a big orange sob that’s about the size of a lynx. He’s crafty quick, at the sign of me the dogs or the wife…he’s gone in an instant. Even a time or two I’ve see him through the window of the house…even at about 30 yds he notices me and disappears!

Noticed the other day as I was installing my plow to the atv that I was kneeling in frozen cat crap and it smelled like urine!! He’s using the dirt floor as a litter box!

I head out fishing and upon setting up the house I notice the beautiful smell of urine! He’s ruining my stuff!

    This SOB needs to DIE!!

I found out where he’s coming in, yep…I tracked him! On the back side of the garage he has a hole under the wall. He uses the front side as well, right were the machine doors come together.

I can’t safely shoot him as what used to be farm field is now homes, I’m surrounded. I’ve watched him out the window, he’s seen me inside the house he’s GONE in an instant.

I currently have a few 220’s set in his runway. But I’m not much of a trapper…any tips?

I’m ready to order night vision, set up the deer stand in the garage and wait with the .22.

What else can I do, should I do to make sure this thing dies SOON??

live trap and a can of tuna. Then you can take the trap and dispose of the cat as you like. Works well with racoons to especially if you live in an area where you cant shoot a gun. Raccoons love marshmallows hehehehe what a last meal!

I had a cat that used the wifes flower bed as their bathroom. Cat treats and a live trap works great. Also got 2 racoons and a family of oposom.

My brother-in-law in Australia is bothered by feral cats from time to time. He uses a live trap. When I asked why there was a rope on it he pointed to his pond and explained that he gives the cats swimming leassons. Toss the cat and trap in the pond, wait 15 minutes and ya got a “good” cat!

Use a tube set with 160 and tuna ect. My feral cats come from drop offs on the road. They make it till opening day of trapping. If you have a trapper friend he probably has a tube or cubby set up for you. If you want to make one pm me.

I once had a very crafty woodchuck living in my garden! now my garden was about 3 acres and mostly pumpkins, gourds, and squash! this little SOB moved in mid summer when the plants were high and he had lots of cover to hide in! little bugger kept taking bites out of my pumpkins that i put so much time into! after trying to wait him out and shoot him with not one chance i decided to live trap him! I thought then he could be punished properly!!! after a week or two and still didnt catch him i was talking with a farmer that lived a few miles from me and he told me i was a fool to try and trap him and he gave me a lot of $*@( for it! kinda rubbed me the wrong way how he seemed to know everything and his pumpkins looked so good! Just so happens that afternoon when i got home! there he was sitting in my live trap! Oh now this little bugger was going to pay! as i walked out to shoot him i was thinking about my farmer buddy giving me so much!@#$! Well old wood chuck was looking pretty sad and i started thinking relocation was a better option for this guy! I loaded him up and waited till dark! drove down and let him go in that farmers garden!

Dont know how much he ate but i did see him a few times sitting in his garden eating greens when i drove by!

    I say live trap him!

I use a live trap as well om;y I hang a weiner by string from the end he comes in has to lift up a bit to get the hot dog and you will have him. Set the trap up close to where he has ben coming in not on the inside incase you get a wayward skunk. If yyou get a skunk the fun begins send me a message an I will explain how to get them out of the trap.

A cubby and the 220 is a killer rig – no pun intended – or the live box. With the freezing temps, add a small can of oysters with the juice to your bait. Even with the bait froze solid, the oysters will give off a stronger scent. I’ve been using that solution for years, it works great to pull in coon or cats

Worst possible solution. No sense in inflicting a cruel death on any animal(including any other critter that might happen to saunter by). Even a feral cat deserves a humane dispatch. Drowning, pellet gun, Exhaust fumes, etc……all are pretty quick and humane.

Nice piece of fur. I use the same set but oyster bait is a bit pricey. I will have to keep that in mind for next season.

Not sure you can find a fish big enough for this cat of yours, but this is always an idea… My dad and I catch TONS of the little chimpunks in livetraps around the house, and we’ve got a bass in one of our ponds that eats them, no lie. Here is a video from a few years ago of my dad tossing it into the water!

A hole cut in a piece of plywood just a tad smaller than the outline of a 110 conibear trap.
Place the plywood over a trash can with a can of open sardines/cat food or other favorite bait in the bottom of the trash can.
Have the conibear lightly holding onto the bottom side of the plywood, I use 2 staples.
When the cat puts his head into the hole, the trap is set and the cat drops into the trash can.

If you live in town, remember that a conibear doesnt always kill them instantly. When in college I lived in a trailer court in town. I always had problems with animals getting under the skirting. I live trapped 3 coons before I gave the trap back to who I borrowed it from. Well the animals came back so I was tired of giving them the release so I went out and bought a 220 connibear and put it in a bucket under my house on wheels. About dark that night I hear an the trap trip. I was happy for all of about 30 seconds before the thing started to meow and screech. Keep in mind that my wife and I lived in a trailer park where all of the veterinary students lived in. Well some of these students were animal rights freaks and let their pets roam at will. This fact, combined that the houses were so close and there was a walking trial that all of the students walked to class on about 20 feet away, made me very nervous. Well after about 5 minutes of screeching the noises stopped. I gave a sigh of relief and got a flashlight and went to dispose of my catch. When I opened up the crawl space that little sob let out a screech and went nuts. I ran back inside and called a buddy. All I said to him was bring your leather gloves and a t-ball bat and get over here, I have a delicate situation that needs dealt with.

Well he comes over and I was still freaking out that I was going to get charged with animal cruelty. When I pulled the varmit out from the crawl space still in the trap, it was going nuts jumping around and around, it almost got me a couple times. I would finish this story but im afraid ive already said too much. You guys can image the circus it must have looked and sounded like. That solved my animal problems.

Got the one I’ve been after! He’s (was) a big male.

The 220 did the job…No suffering!

They’re reset!! SO if you live near the cemetary…might want to keep kitty in the house for a while.

Now…how to get the cat urine out of my voyager??

P.S. Randy or Drew…how does that trap stay in place in the photo, is it just set there or is there something holding it up?

I use rerod tee shaped stakes that fit through the circle of the springs to steady the trap. Normaly even a big coon will not make it that far after the trap goes off but I wire one stake to the trap just in case so it makes a bigger trail. A 220 is a pretty sure thing though. I use 160s which is a little lighter. If you leave it out there when it gets a little warmer you are taking a chance of getting a skunk so keep an eye where it is set. There are more feral cats out there than you think. With a hard winter the mice are hard to get to so they will be foraging near and far. You did the wild bird population a great favor.

BD Thanks fr taking care of this. Damn thing was in my Garage late fall. My mut got a face full of pissed off [censored] whe it was in her kennel. Looks like he moved your way when I blocked off the kennel opening. There’s a little black and white one raoming around our way as well. I’ll make sure she knows about your litter box.

I dont feel strongly about how people dispose of critters, but I did think it was ABSOLUTELY HILARIOUS that you say that anti freeze isnt humane, but your avatar is a speared northern.

I dont care who you are, that is funny right there.

    I see the irony…and it is funny…..

I have no issues with killing any animal. A speared fish dies a quick death. Spear, retrieve, clobber – it’s over…..

Poisoning an animal with anti freeze takes a long time. Kidney failure is what does them in. A lingering, suffering death is a poor choice. I see a huge difference in a slow, lingering painful death over a quick one. I have trapped for about 25 years and have killed lots of critters. I try my best to make those deaths humane.

I’d be careful with the antifreeze for another reason…

I seem to remember reading of a dude in the same situation. Tired of cats under his porch, leaving tootsy rolls and dead birds all over. So he went with the antifreeze route.

The cat went home and died a few days later-after thousands of dollars of vet bills. Guess who was the bad guy? The guy who got caught with a bowl of antifreeze next to his porch. Guess who got sued for vet bills and charged with animal cruelty.

But, sounds like the traps worked

Just an FYI on 2 things. 1. Antifreeze – There was a guy around Sauk that had poisin out for “rats”. Suddenly dead eagles were being found in the area. Huge issues with that

    2. Are feral cats on the protected species list like they are in WI??????????? Its one thing to get rid of them in a permanent way. Its another thing to bring it to the publics attention

No…the wild (feral) cat is not protected in Minnesota…or S.D. They can be legally killed. What’s WI waiting for??

Ahh…the poor public and what they might think of the disposing of feral cats that are ruining property, killing song birds, pheasants and any other animal they can get their paws on!! If you can’t tell…I don’t have an issue with telling the “public”. Infact, if more public knew the damages done by feral cats, maybe states like WI would take them off the protected list??

Not quite sure what WI and so many other states are waiting for, feral cats are a REAL PROBLEM.
