Ok I got a speending ticket my first one in over 4 years this Sept. i think in Duluth by a trooper doing 60 mph in a 50 mph zone? Does this go on my record for driving and my vehicle Ins??

Now last night I get pulled ovver doing 40 in a 30 in a part of St. Paul Lexington by Gabes Bar. The cop gives me the ticket and says I see you have no violations in 4 years, I say well I got one in Sept I think or Oct?? He says Its not on my record but his one will be???

I talked to a family friend who is a St.Paul cop and he said I can’t do anything now cause there automaticlly entered cause the ticket is done on computer!!

    So my questions are.

    1. Is my insurance gonna skyrocket?
    2. Are these tickets gonna be on my driving record?
    3. Now if I get one more ticket do I lose my license??

God what a string of crappy luck!! The tickets were both 121 smacks a pop.. I can’t believe I got the ticket last night he was a nice guy, and I thought I’d get a warning, I told him I was lost and I really was.. With this economy I can’t believe he did it, I didn’t even think St.Paul cops wrote speeding tickets

This has been just my experience: ticket number 1 in January 2006(speeding), ticket number 2 january 2007(speeding) with nothing else on my record, my insurance on truck doubled and my boat insurance went up 200.00!!! Good luck

Heck ya!! They set speed traps all over the place. One right in front of my house from time to time.

Several years ago I got a ticket for doing 30 in a 30. It was snowing and the cop felt that speed was unsafe. I did get out of that one….

Your first ticket will show up eventually. Not sure what happens on #3. Good Luck and get a radar detector.

Wife is an agent. When she gets home i’ll have her give you the scoop. I think it depends on the company you are with. I know some once you get a couple, when it comes time to renew they say see ya.

Jimmy, the 10 mph thing i’m not sure about. Its a pretty safe bet your ins. is going to go up its just a matter of how much?? dont sweat it, just slow down and avoid the 3rd ticket.

A radar detector will not always save you. They will only pick up a radar signal if the radar unit is activated. If the radar is on hold there is no signal out there for your unit to pick up.
BTW, I know for many it is an automatic ticket if the person has a radar detector.

It depends on what statute he wrote your ticket under. There is a statute that can be written that won’t go on your ins. but is for 55 zones normaly. There is no set time that your ticket will stay on your record. What I have found is that the more your license is run the better chance it may come off because the files would get updated. Thats not how it always happens, just what I have seen on some occasions. Speeding is getting way to expensive nowadays. Its not the fine that keeps going up, its the court cost that get attached with it.
Just for the record because I know someone will say it at some point. The department does not get all the money from tickets. The state and the court gets most. Say if the ticket was $135. The department will only see a couple dollars.

I am sorry for being contrary but perhaps if you were’t speeding you wouldn’t need a radar detecter or be worried about how your tickets will affect your ins. Sounds like you had a 4 yr lucky streak that just ran out.

Jimmy, The State of Minnesota is a businness. They want money. Like any business things are negotable. Take the day off go to your court date. Chance are your talk to a court admin person they will offer you a deal. Some thing like pay a little more and this won’t show up on your record. Long and you keep from getting any more violations. Or you can play the game with the court and see if the cop shows up to your second hearing. Chances are he won’t.
I’ve gotten out of paying lots of tickets and I don’t have any tickets that are reported to the ins. co.

As fare as your rates going up, I guess that question all depends on who your insurance carrier is. Some companies charge more heavily on speeding tickets than others, and for different durations of time. Most companies surcharge upwards of 5 years for violations, but there are some that only charge 3 years. You may be able to fly under the radar for quite some time until they actually find out you have had a speeding ticket. In my case, I’ve spoken to clients who have made it 3-5 years without being checked for tickets from their insurance carrier.

Either way, expect to see a rate increase some time in the future. How much is difficult to say, as there are numerous factors these days that go into an insurance rate other than your driving record.

And as sad as it is, it’s been proven that tickets are much more common during tough times such as these.

Defintely go to court, and ask for a continuation on the ticket. Pretty much means that if you have no same or similar offenses in the next year it will go bye bye off your record. I wouldn’t make up any excuses, as the hearing officer or city attorney has heard them all…just admit you screwed up, and they’ll work with you.

Yeah, it’s all about luck,,and paying attention. I got nailed 3 times in 4 years during college. Haven’t been pegged since but I have been pulled over a fair amount of times. Not that I agree with speeding but everyone has done it. I don’t question the officer and don’t make excuses. Seems to work once the lights are in your mirror.

Do exactly what Pockets said. That is the best way to handle the ticket.

I’m 56 and the only traffic ticket I’ve had was when I accidently failed to slow down in a residential zone.Traffic laws are in place for the safety of the public and need to be respected like any other of our laws.If you chose to break them fine but don’t whine when you get caught.

Jimmy, my wife worked for Farmers Ins for 14 years. She said, the Insurance company will only catch it, if they run a MVR on you. I said, whats an MVR, its a Motor Vehicle Report. When I got in trouble awhile back, she didn’t let me buy a new snowmobile or ATV or different car or anything that I would need to insure, because when you start asking for quotes on vehicles, that will for sure trigger an MVR. You may or may not get caught, depends on what your insurer does with MVR’s. She said, it will definitely go up with 1 and especially with 2. farmers rates were based on points, you didn’t want points… A speeding ticket is a speeding ticket, is a speeding ticket in their book, 1 mph or 10 over, its points. Lay low and hope for the best and for crying out loud … SLOW DOWN !!!!

Not all speeding tickets make it to your driver’s license record (aka: your “45”). As an example, if you are cited for going 64 in a 55 – that offense is not “Reportable to the Dept. of Public Safety”. In other words, it will never appear on your record.

If you’re interested in learning what is on your driving record, you can obtain a copy through your local Court Administration. Depending on the County – there may be a small fee for this (like 5 or 10 bucks).

I can’t attest to that, just if it hits your record, the Insurance company gets access by your MVR. Once it hits your record, it is awarded points, with Farmers anyways, she thought a minimal speed ticket would get you 1/2 point. Ones over 10 MPH a full point and so on. Might be a good idea as suggested, to check out your record and what has landed…

Big G is right on Lay low on the insurance end and you will be alot better off. You will find out this spring when your company sends you a renewal Dec. if it donesn’t go up to much (most renewed policies are going up on average $10-$15 per vehicle) pay it and don’t say to much. Good luck.

Back in my younger days, I had gotten two tickets in less than a month. From what I remember, a third within a certain amount of time, would be a suspension of my license for 30 days, I think. Anyway, I went to court, and got a continuation on the second one. Sure enough, about a month later, I got my third ticket. Went back to the SAME courthouse, talked to the SAME city attorney, and got a continuation on top of the previous continuation. After that, I decided it was time to ease up and drive a little slower.

Your 3rd moving violation in one year, the fine is an automatic $285 plus or minus a few depending on the counties court costs.

Deertracker, you an officer up in Alex? My family is from there, and in fact the first ticket in the series of three was on Christmas Day on Hwy 27. It was a nice day, and I decided to pull my Mustang out of storage and drive it home. I was running real late, so I decided how fast I could go. I had just passed into triple digits, when I happened to see a maroon car coming towards me. Fail. At least he was very nice, and wrote me up for going less than 10 mph over the limit.
