Well I was looking to upgrade my recent purchase of the cabellas underwater camera with the Marcum 380 that was on sale for $249. If you have a copy of the internet ad please let me know.

During my phone calls and search of every server on the internet I came across a underwater flashlight made to go on the bottom of the aqua view cameras. Here is the link.
cabellas I was told that it works well for improving night vision. Has anyone tried one of these? Just wondering if the work. Thanks guys.

I got a chance to try out one of these “flood lights” that attach to the Aquaview cameras it is a big step up over the lighting that surrounds the camera lens but still leaves plenty of room for improvement. I have not tried the lighting on the new Aquaview explorer series but I’m very impressed with the new manta camera on the Marcums. Hope you can find the Ad that is a great price on the 380

I don’t think the camera floodlight is legal in MN, WI might be ok.

Sure Lester, rub it in . J/K. I have searched and searched. Looks like my only hope is someone has a copy of the ad. I actually found the group page, listing the reg price and sale price, along with other cameras, etc. but the page I need to print is gone. BIG sigh. Thanks for the review on the spotlight, sounds like it will help. Rat, thanks for trying!.

Ron, the way I understood the law was, the lights were okay if attached to the camera, they are LED if that matters. I will check into it to be sure. Thanks!!!

I think the issue is that the light is not “part” of the camera. It’s illegal to put a light under the water, at least in MN. This light is a add on so it may be a gray area..

i know that using a light to lure or attract fish is illegal. i just dont think that reg applies in this instance. if you turn that light on at nite, you wont be attracting them to your bait. from my experience, the opposite effect actually happens.
ive cleared out a flasher’s view full of fish by turning my LEDs on, only to have them come right back as soon as i turned it off.

I was on another forum site and they seemed to come to the conclusion it could be considered a fish atracting light. Which by the MN fishing regs says “an artificail light to lure or attract fish is unlawful”, or something like that.

I called the nice folks at aqua-vu and they said they get that question alot,…. but don’t know either.

They are illegal in Minnesota because it is an add on feature and not built into the camera, hence the DNR considers them and artificial light. Does not matter whether they are leds or not as long as they are visible light.

yeah i figured aquavu wouldnt give you a straight answer. thats kinda like apple selling an ipod and not telling you that its illegal to pirate music.

i guess i dont see how attaching a secondary light source specifically designed for that unit would be illegal, but utilizing the LEDs already on the unit are ok…

Called the DNR. ALL lights on cameras are illegal. ANY light used to catch fish is against the law. I talked to him for a couple of minutes about it. There is no provision or law for underwater cameras, according to him..
He gave me the number to my local game warden, I left a message for him to call me back… stay tuned………..
