so, yesterday they had a test to see if your analog t.v. will work after feb.17th. I hooked up the box and as near as i can figure you need to use both your tv remote and the remote they include for total function of your set. am I correct or am I missing something. the picture is great but having to use 2 remotes is silly.

Most systems have the ability to “learn” your TV type and then can utilize funcitons such as on/off, volume etc… Have you read the manual of the converter box to see if it offers this function?

    yup… kooty is right.

plus, thats kinda how everything works these days. you dont use the tv remote for anything anymore. dish systems have a remote. cable boxes use their romote. even dvd players use their own remote. all you can do is hope that the system you are using is advanced enough to be able to program your tv. i know my buddy cant program a LG brand tv to his dish network box. he is stuck using 2 remotes…

Not to Hi-jack your post, but as long as we are on the subject. Can you still get the converter boxes free or at a discount? I can’t remember how that went, but I thought it was something the the federal gov. was offering.

    Thanks,

Last I heard on the new was that they ran out of them, they under estimated how many people would need them. I am not sure if they will be coming out with more of the vouchers or not.

Last I heard there were over 103,000 on the wait list for the converter boxes. They are out of money.

That being said, Obama has been hinting he doesn’t think we are ready for the change. I’d be willing to bet he will delay the change and he will pump more money in the voucher program. Wouldn’t that be a surprise.

One of the biggest problems I have found is that people bought the boxes that did not need them. If you are on a dish or are on cable, you do not need a converter no matter what kind of tv you have. If you are on an antena and have an HD tv. You do not need the converter.

Yes I know of people that did that,…. you know… just in case.

I also heard the Obama thing about delaying it.

We install these almost every day now. The Insignia ones have a remote that can you can learn the tv but there are few of them that do. We installed one today that can’t. Look in the manual. If it says it can then it can. If not???
