Angling pioneer and legend Ron Lindner recently had a medical scare that’s caused him to look at life all over again, he said.
It all started when he experienced some problems and decided to go for a stress test a few days before he was to leave for his winter home in Florida. The stress test led to an angioplasty that revealed six blockages in his arteries. He underwent surgery almost immediately for three double-bypasses and is currently recovering in Minneapolis–St. Paul. He’s 75 years old.

“I had a lot of prayer from a lot of loved ones,” he said. “My life is the fishing business, and I had a lot of prayer from within the industry and from without. It’s probably the heaviest hit of anything I’ve ever felt in my life, but I’m going to be fine. It’ll take time, and there’ll be some healing involved here.

“It’s actually a blessing from God,” he added. “I was on my way out of here for Florida when I took the stress test. My brother Al said it’s better they found out now than to have me 25 miles up in the Everglades fighting a tarpon by myself at 5:00 at night.”

This wasn’t his first brush with a potentially deadly condition. He had melanoma in the face several years ago. Looking back, he said the heart trouble was caused by years of not taking care of himself. He was a heavy drinker and smoker before he found God, and never took seriously the recommendations for eating light. In fact, he remembers his days as a walleye guide when he’d throw lard in the skillet to cook his walleye shore lunches.

He opts for baked walleye now, and urges BassFans to do the same.

Right now, he’s not sure if he’ll be able to get to his Florida retreat before spring. He can’t be in a sitting position for any longer than 3 hours. That’s about how long a direct flight will take, so if he does go, he’ll fly and have sometime drive his rig down.

“I’ll tell you this on reevaluating your life situation – you look at it a little different now,” he said from his hospital bed. “I thank everybody who prayed for me. I truly believe modern medicine is a gift from God.”

Yes he has!! I wish him a speedy recovery and I’d be happy to drive his boat down.

Any updates on this situation? Is there anywhere we can leave a note for him and his family, like on their website?
